I prefer combo locks because I may not be able to get to a key when I need to get to my gun.

For those Secure-It boxes, buy the version with the key lock then switch it out with a "Combi Cam"combination lock

website here: http://www.combi-cam.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

available for purchase at amazon.com and various RV stores etc.

usally the 5/8-inch version is what you need for secure-it boxes etc.

I've also installed these locks on the little metal pistol lockers sold at Academy

like this one http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=c ... 03254-9005" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

or this one http://www.factory-express.com/Sentinel ... -40071.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Academy has both the keyed and combo lock Nano boxes. I like the keyed because it's cheaper and I use it for storage when I'm not there so quick access isn't a priority, but they also have the combo lock if you want.

I use one of those Gunvaults. Mounted to the rear wall of my reg cab truck. With the console down I have easy access. It's at about a 45 degs angled up. Keeps the gun above all the other *super* essential stuff I usually have bouncing around behind my seat. I put it in the natural position my arm follows when reaching so the hand hits right on the combo pad that has 4 finger grooves. Quick and easy. Used the mounting screws that came with it, if someone had a crowbar they would make quick work of it but it will stop the guy who's short on time or tools.

Do those with a nanovault think a 3.5" 1911 would fit? It looks close...

Sure will. I can fit a 4" 1911 and a snubnose at the same time.
FYI...I think they come in three sizes. I use the medium size.
