jbird, I had a similar experience at last year's CHL instructors' school. I went to a range in Leander with some classmates the night before the test to shoot and tutor a couple guys who were worries they couldn't shoot 90%.

Before pulling my own "toys" out of my bag, I was explaining constant contact trigger control and the "process" of making a good shot to one guy when he me to demonstrate what I was talking about with his gun. It was a SigPro 2340 and I'd never shot one before that day. I fired ten rounds at seven yards while regurgitating the basics of marksmanship to my classmates.

When I was done, I had four pairs of eyes bulging and four jaws on the floor. Thinking I'd some how embarassed myself with a cluster of misses and lossed all credibility, I looked downrange. But there it was in all it's shining glory; a single, slightly ragged, dime-sized hole in the target. Needless to say, I declined requests to replicate that feat with the other guys guns, or my own for that matter. No way was I going to prove just how big a fluke that was.

I rarely shoot more than 200rds per trip (100 from my 9mm and 100 from my S&W40). I tend to get sloppy and just waste ammo after that...

IDPA or USPSA matches are a good way to get in trigger time. If you have a club with advanced shooters, you can learn a lot.

Structured training courses or matches are about the only times I burn more than about 200 rounds in a single session.
Yep. Even when I have specific things I want to practice, after a couple hundred I feel like I am just burning ammo.

I have never shot over 600-700 rounds during two-day schools.
'Bout the same...150-200, Every other week or so...

If I get Wife Unit to tag along, I get done with my stuff, and sit there and keep reloading her mags till she starts griping, then I hand her the .45, then she'll hush... ;-)

Geesh, women...

Oops, I'm gonna get it now...Or not... :fire :chldancing

Typically, handgun is about 100-200 rounds. Rifles are usually less, but may be up to 50-100. Plinking, especially with .22LR, can burn up a lot of rounds. Aerial target games with shotguns can be 50-100 rounds, but I haven't done that in years. I understand that some of the training courses usually get the count up considerably higher, but you are probably learning specific skills in a more dynamic environment than the basic bull's eye sessions.

That sounds very familiar. that's as close as i'll get to an admission.

I don't remember which pistols I was shooting, but I shot enough that trigger slap numbed the trigger finger. So, much that i decided to use the middle finger on the trigger. I use a drill so much, an use the center finger on the control, and index to "point " the drill. I though it would be no big deal on my 9mm.
No trigger control at all, horrible.

I only practice now until I'm doing well, not to failure.
I used to practice golf until things were going from great to poor. That was a hard habit to break, but a great lesson learned the hard way.

I go with one handgun. I've gone through 250 rounds a couple of times. I pretty much am down to a 90 round routine.
I have 2 mags. and I fire and reload the 2 mags of 15 between every cease fire.

1st round: 2 hand grip at 7 yards. Taking my time 15 rounds. next 15 rounds one handed most strong hand 3 or 4 with weak hand.

2nd Round: double taps then double taps with pumpkin shot follower. 30 rounds

3rd Round: 3 Yds Point `n Shoot then making big hole
