Condolences.

A question.

In the Burma Theater they used a lot of donkeys and mules for pack animals before they got the road built.
Did he ever tell you if he was involved with their care?
I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do those things to other people and I require the same of them.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

Thank You.

I have a picture of him with a mule that may be from India. He mentioned they were used and I'm assuming he would have been involved in their treatment and examinations. I recall him saying there were quite a number of guard dogs, also. I don't remember a lot of detail about those things, but I do remember well him telling me how rampant rabies was there and the many cases he saw in animals and humans as well. A dog he took in as a pet developed rabies and he had to put it down and later he himself was bitten by a rabid dog. He had to take the tremendously harsh series of injections (21 days) needed for prevention. He said it was exremely painful. Ironically in the 1960's he was bitten by a dog brought in by a client that was infected. Typical of my dad he went out to help get the dog out of the back seat and since it was a pup about two and a half or three months of age wasn't that concerned. The client described symptoms more like distemper. The series was only 10 or 11 shots at that time. From what I saw they were still extemely painful, but he said it was nothing like in India.
He was sent to Assam - Chabua Air Base at some point and that's where he spent the better part of the three years he was there. He loved the Indian people and always said he was going to go back, but sadly never it came to fruition. Sorry to drone on like this in my response..... but anyway it brought back memories.

Losing a parent brings so many feelings of loss and yet having a dad like yours also leaves feelings of pride and respect for all he did, for who he was, and for the legacy he gave you. It is obvious to me he also excelled as a father. Your touching tribute to him is proof of that if I knew nothing else about you. Those of us who have lost parents such as yours know your pain and grieve with you. I grieve with you and I also honor with you the meaning of his life well lived. God bless you and your family.
