The two times I had guns on me during robberies (in an electronics store and in a hardware store) and the time I was held at knifepoint (college campus parking lot)
I wasn't really expecting it beforehand.
I carry always, because criminals don't call ahead to make reservations...
Buy longer shirts.

I assume you know that AZ signs are different from TX signs.. ?

In AZ it's illegal to carry past this sign...

I always looked for a sign that had any type of legal lettering on it. Never saw one. Went to a couple of museums and a zoo and the only signs they had were simple "No weapons allowed."

Things can happen at the unlikliest of places and times...AND, if you start a habbit of carry here but not there...if you do need it, you will either forget you have it, or need it and think you do, go to reach and you don't. If the gun size is the problem, find one you can carry more often. Just a suggestion from the FWIW dept!

Amen, brother.
I tell all my students, "Violence is random, and you are not psychic." So, considering it is impossible to predict when violence occurs (so that we can simply avoid the situation), we must carry all the time. Otherwise, you're just playing the Violence Lottery.

I've been told that.
Being "obviously" physically handicapped, looking like an "easy target" doesn't help... but actually two of those 3 times were not because of appearance. Two were store robberies, one was about appearance, the guy pulled a knife because he was scared of me when I approached to ask what time it was. I looked "biker-ish" at the time and he was scared.

To the OP I frequently carry a 3" SP101 OWB and occasionally IWB. It conceals well and the extra heft over the 2" J-frames means full house magnum loads are very tolerable after I replaced the Ruger Grips with some Hogues. If I'm doing IWB I much prefer my Kahr CW40. I'm not real hot on mechanical saftey's I figure the All Knowing One gave me the ultimate saftey between my ears. Buy yourself some longer tailed shirts and have fun but be safe.

If you carry past that sign anywhere else, the non-res clause doesn't apply.
What the heck is an on-sale retailer?

Holstered up with my crossbreed type holster, threw in my XD40sc, and wore a shirt that I thought was sufficient. During the stops I found that the shirt I was wearing was a bit too short, and had to constantly pull it over the gun.
We did something every day of the week while I was there, and both my BIL and I were carrying. I was a bit uncomfortable for the first couple of days but after that, it became like second nature. I did find that my clothing style is really insufficient for the gun I carry. I wear shirts that fit, as in I'm 6'1 and wear medium shirts that go just over my belt. The holster did a good job of concealing, and no one in my gun-toting family knew I was carrying, but any type of kneeling or bending left me keeping my hand pulling on my shirt to make sure it stays down.
I saw very few gun buster signs, and absolutely no legal signs, which was pretty cool.
All in all, I'm glad I carried in AZ...Tucson was a little on the sketchy side, to say the least. But being back home, I've only carried once. I find myself only desiring to carry when I'm out with family/friends. Otherwise, I really have no desire to dress around my gun. I love the XD a lot, but it is a little on the heavy side, and just a bit on the bulky side in width. Who knows, I may just end up getting a nice wheelgun. My BIL's 3" SP101 concealed very well.
Arizona has constitutional carry. Why did you worry so much about someone seeing your gun?

The CRIME only applies to the "licensed premises of an on-sale retailer", so anywhere else the affirmative defense is unnecessary.
One of the few reasons to have a permit in AZ (or reciprocally recognized one) is to be able to carry in a "licensed" premises, assuming they don't have a sign posted. Other places in AZ do not require a permit to carry open or concealed.

A friend of mine, a DPD Sergeant, got this reputation and when he first became a Sergeant several other guys under him would follow him around on patrol. When he asked them why, they said that trouble just seemed to follow him and they wanted to be there when it did.
