Simply not true. There is nothing today (in the law) preventing a CHL from carrying on the campus. Only the buildings are off-limits. :rules:
Why carry if you cannot enter the buildings? The point is that you still have to disarm.
My point was the statement was a lie.

"Senate Bill 354 is a bad solution to a serious problem. It makes us feel like we've gotten tough -- deputizing students -- but the fact is that the universities don't want it, the students don't want it and law enforcement doesn't want it because they know it will not make our campuses safer.
Just once, I'd like to see one of these antis back up their information with facts. Who says the student's don't want and and based on what evidence? Oh, I forgot. The good Senator has a pipeline to the students. It is right next to his pipeline to heaven.

If Texas A&M is opposed to it I think it's safe to say a majority at most universities oppose it, or at least those making such statements can come up with polls like this one that support their position. As far as I can tell, most university students don't care since it doesn't affect them and many more blindly oppose it because their professors et al show them the "enlightened way."

Honestly, I'd take that poll with a grain of salt. It was a question tacked on to the end of the student government election ballot. It also represents the voice of only 30% of the undergraduate student body and was a 7% margin. I'd hardly call that a firm stance against it. But, such is life I suppose.

"When there is an alcohol-related tragedy on campus, you don't hear claims that giving students more beer is the solution. Yet, when it comes to gun-related incidents, we seem to think that putting more guns in the mix will lead to a good, rather than bloody outcome.
Can I play?

When there is a drunk driving tragedy, you don't hear claims that drunk cops is the solution. Yet, when it comes to armed robbery, we seem to think that allowing cops to carry guns will lead to a good, rather than bloody outcome.

They'd just extend that to "see, you want everybody drunk, you'll issue free booze to hormonal 17 year olds" "rlol"

Even three should be able to bring the poll numbers up more than they're doing.

"If we are going to go down this road of more guns on campus, then we need to allow the students on a campus to make the choice for themselves. Students must approve fee increases for a student center or gym, so we ought to let them approve whether they want their fellow students to be strapped in Econ 101."

Do the students get to approve whether they want their fellow students to be able to exercise the right to freedom of speech?

Do the students have a vote on the drinking age? On smoking marijuana? On having sex parties in the dorms? Because I suspect Senator Ellis' opinion on those issues might be at odds with those students.

Those are all really good points. I don't usually go here, but I wonder if anyone would have the... guts? lack of wisdom?... to throw out an additional analogy: ask Senator Ellis if the other diners should be allowed to approve of whether or not blacks get to dine @ the lunch counter...

All this might be just a little too much logic for most elected officials to handle. :headscratch :confused5

I would pay to see that.
