In an anecdote marginally related to "bar vs. church" issues:
In "The Simpson's" movie, the end of the world, or somesuch, is announced.
The immediate reaction of all the church people is to exit the church and run next door to Moe's Bar.
All the barflies in Moe's Bar exit the bar and run next door to the church! :-)

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

LOL, good yarn, didn't really believe it, but it made a good joke.
We had a strip joint open up a few miles from here outside city limits (no zoning) it was the only one in the county. There was a church about a quarter mile away, the quorum court made a new law about "adult business" and made the zone just big enough to include this place. The strip joint won the court case but went broke fighting it, and a church moved into the building. Realy popular new church and they made a lot out of the histsory of the place until the preacher had to quit in a sex scandal and the whole church fell apart. I think they sell RVs and storage buildings there now.
