Instead we used the homemade pad I created and it worked GREAT!!!!!! Maybe my old brain still has some steam left in it, but I would bet that recoil was minimized by well over 80%. I would realistically say that I could put 100 rounds downrange with no bruising. Very pleased with it. Next time I may try the slip on, but if it doesn't work well I am pleased I have a good back up.
Pics? I love DIY projects :)

Its very basic, but I'll see what I can do for pics. Not very savvy, technologically speaking.....

I put that fixed replacement pad on 2 of my mosins, and I never even think about recoil any more. It's the kind that temporarily replaces the metal buttplate, and uses the same screws to attach to the butt. The rubber is very effective in padding recoil, and adds about 1" or 1 1/4" to LOP. And you can always screw the old original metal butt plate back on. ;-)

Are you talking about the hard rubber replacement pad? Mine didn't work for me at all. I have a couple fussed vertebrate in my neck and it wrecked havok for the next couple of days after I shot it. I went and bought a limbsavor medium slip on and it made it to where I can shoot without feeling the shock of the recoil even after 20+ shots. Btw I bought some garnet shellac to touch up where it fell off the stock and put a new layer on it and it blended perfectly with the old shellac. Even more detail came out of the stock, I found finger grooves from a left handed person that I guess the rifle was issued to and some more light symbols from the armory.

I also was shooting 18in to high and bought the large replacement post and made the adjustments so now I can hit the paper.

It's not hard rubber, it's actually kind of soft. It's the kind that G26ster referred to above, at this link: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_kw=mosin&_ ... nt&_kw=pad" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. It's actually soft rubber, on a metal frame. Sorry to hear about the trouble shooting.

Weird I bought one from ebay also that looks exactly like that but it was pretty hard rubber.
