I started this thread a few days ago. It just seems so simple to me that 38 or 39 other states have shall issue carry laws, but each new state that brings it up, the media goes right back to the "Wild West, Road Rage, Blood in the Streets" emotional arguements. It sure seems like no one can learn from the other states, each has to go through the same hand wringing before everyone settles down and figures out it isn't so bad and the sky didn't fall.

This seems a little "loose" to me. Material for the antis?
From the article:
"One in five people permitted to carry guns in Johnson County since a new shall carry law went into effect in January have criminal records, Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek said Wednesday."

I smell media anti-gun propaganda. But if true, since when has the media, or liberals in general, ever been concerned about criminals getting guns? It's the people like us they want to take guns away from. They want the thugs to have guns. If anything, if the article was 100% accurate about what it suggests (which I think unlikely) then the author's real concern would be with the 80% who aren't criminals having guns. Guns are secondary to this bunch, what they really want to strip away is your right to self-defense.

In the big picture of the Iowa law - allows people to get a license to carry like the one individual cited with several arrests and a DUI; unconcealed carry; no proficiency testing; hunting from vehicles on roadways - could it be a way to cause enough of an adverse public reaction ('knee jerk') to cause the repeal of the laws. If you don't want a particular thing, just push it way beyond what is normal - the reaction that will occur is going to be deep into the opposite direction.
