Hickok45 mentioned a recent incident that just took place somewhere in middle Tennessee. No one knows all of the details yet, but two cars pulled very fast into a parking lot...one behind the other. One dude gets out (CHL holder) and shoots the other guy twice. The guy that got shot twice (non-CHL holder), takes the gun away and shoots the CHL holder dead with it. Like I said, no details as of yet.

I am not sure of the moral of the story. There seem to be several: 1) Road rage is not good, 2) Don't let someone take away your gun if you just shot them, 3) Two to center mass and one to the head, 4) Self-control and anger management is a good thing.

I am not trying for levity here, these are all valid points. You hear a lot of stories of people getting shot center mass, and they keep on keeping on. It happened here in Tyler. There was a BG who decided to take out his family at the Courthouse. He had a nice big gun and was doing a good job of using it. A CHL holder snuck up behind him and shot him at least once. What this poor, but brave, hero did not realize is that the guy had body armor on as well. He turned around and shot the hero dead. It took awhile, during the road chase, for someone to make the connection between what seemed like good shots to the body, and no real effect. I used to think the idea of two to the body and one to the head was overkill (no pun intended), but I now think it is the way you will probably have to go. As long as it can take to shut down after being shot center mass, there can be plenty of time for someone to do just what the guy did in Tennessee. If we live by the advice we give everyone, "Don't point the gun at anything you do not intend to destroy", then be intent on destroying what it is you are shooting at. Needless to say, this is life advice, and not legal advice. I am sure there are plenty of potential jurors out there that would see two to the body and one to the head as a savagery that only highlights why we should not be allowed to carry guns.

You make good points, but I think two-to-the-body-one-to-the-head needs to be balanced with your need to "shoot to stop", not "shooting to kill". Quotes because that's exactly what my CHL instructor told my class we were supposed to do ("shoot to stop", that is). I've never been involved (thankfully) in such an incident, but I imagine it would be very difficult to compute the number of rounds fired versus "stopped". IMHO, it boils down to our litigious society and whether or not you're going to be the dog or the hydrant on any particular day.

I like oatmeal. I add milk and nuts and sugar and dried fruit and maple syrup and other yumminess to make a creamy, sweet meal.

Oatmeal cookies... I've never seen one that wasn't dry and tasteless. They're like a chef's ninja stars. Throw one of those and you can do some damage!

Was it instant oatmeal or the old-fashioned steel cut oats?

Not doubting your story, but can you back either of those 2 stores with an article, or something? There's a lot of 'chl tales' that float around the internet, and get a little embellished at times. I think we would have heard of these, and I have no such recall to either of these 2 stories being mentioned previously.

No problem.. First off, I live in Tyler, and lived here when it happened. For a source, you can refer to "Thank God I had a Gun" by Chris Bird. Wonderful book, much better read than you think it is going to be. The first chapter, on hurricane Katrina, is worth the price of the book. The hero's name is Mark Wilson. His story starts on page 139.

If you have heard of John Lott, author of "More Guns, Less Crime", you can visit his site where he posted a nice article. If you are not familiar with Mr. Lott, he is an economist that proved the relationship between places honoring the second ammendment and those who don't in relationship to how crime decreases when criminials know homeowners, etc, may be armed.
