I know, every time I see two or three at a time going out the door, that I will be seeing them back in a few days, and that they work perfectly well, but will be marked down 25% just because they were returned.
I hate it when people do that. Might as well be stealing.

Ok, I gotta play devils advocate.
They are not liars as those units can't cool a house the way central AC does. They can't be thieves as they are returning them even left some money at the cashier on the way out the first time. :smilelol5:

As a side note I had mine die a couple years ago only it was a capacitor. Lucky I had a friend who was able to acquire one from a store that opened just for that sale. I did go to wal-mart and buy a fan which I still have.

:iagree: :iagree: Home Depot loses 25% of a units cost every time this happens.

I have had to get a couple of window units before and they worked great. I kept them and used them every summer periodically to supplement the house AC on those 100+ days until they wore out.

Don't know how I am going to put up with the 90-120 day wait! Already getting antsy! "rlol"

And to think I thought the original CHL application years ago was painful! :smilelol5:

The good news is the new A/C compressor is working fine in this 100+ weather! :thewave

All in all, I'd suggest a Home Owner's Warranty. It'd have covered the compressor for a small fee.

Mine covers all appliances, the AC and plumbing issues. If you have a house or appliances approaching the ten year mark, it'd be a good idea to look into one.

Thanks but I do not believe in the benefits of insurance.
In most cases, you pay more in premiums for "feel good" emotions for many years than what you have to pay for something that actually needs replacement.

Plus, with insurance companies, the higher the repair/replacement, the more arguing you have to do to even get half the money you should.

Had my A/C systems "tuned-up" today. Only problem found was that the start-capacitor in one of them was "weak" (but still operational). I ask him how much they ran, and he answered (something like) two-fifty. I asked, "$2.50"? He said, "No"...

So, I said I'd do it myself. Found the identical capacitor online for less than $20.

Lets see, he actually had the old capacitor out to test it. The replacement part is less that $20. WHY DO THEY WANT TO CHARGE $250 TO REPLACE IT? :banghead:

Labor. Greedy. He knows your are hot and want to get cool.

In my case I originally thought the compressor was gone.
Turned out it was only the motor and capacitor.

He went and got a motor and capacitor and installed them.
Charged me $135.00 for the motor (about 35 too much).
Charged me $30.00 for the capacitor (about 10 too much).
Charged me $150.00 for Labor (2 hrs).
Tax $13.61
Total $328.61

This sounds high but I live in the country and he had to drive to me and then drive 35 miles (each way round trip) to get the parts back to me and install them.

I am satisfied. Working great in this over 100 deg weather and I didn't have to pay 1200-1700 for a complete new outdoor unit (as I thought I was going to have to).

Yeah, I figured greed. But there is a point where all greed gets you is nothing. In this case the AC was working, so there was no rush on my part. And the old cap was in his hand. If hed said $50, I'd have taken him up on it, just to avoid the hassle. But to save $230 I'll do it myself.

What did he charge you for the "inspection" of the 2 units?

Three units. And I picked up a special $49 (each) price from an ad on WBAP. That was another issue. Called them to set up the appointment a couple of weeks ago, and they wanted to charge me $89 each. Mentioned (again) the WBAP special, and the guy said they WERE having a special, how long ago did I hear the ad? I answered, "About 15 minutes ago!" I got the reduced price.

They are just like Politicians. The only way they know how to count is in their favor!

That explains the 250! He was trying to make up for the "special price" you received on the initial call.
