You broke the unlisted rule #1

Don't ask, don't tell. :smilelol5:

Granted, unless there's 30.06 signs there, or someone tells you ORALLY (not verbally), then it still is not illegal.
I don't know what this event/place is, but also if it is on government owned or leased property, then any 30.06 notice, verbal, or oral, is irrelevant.

Basically, the DADT rule, in regard to carry, is if you don't ask, they can't tell you no. Texas, by law, allows carry pretty much everywhere by default, and if they don't want you to carry there, they have to tell YOU. You are not required to ask, and doing so only gives them the ability to say no.

Most people in the state of Texas are completely oblivious to carry laws, and are unaware to the fact that people around them carry, legally, all the time. By asking, you are essentially outing that yourself and others may possibly be carrying there. Something the person who you are asking may not even have considered beforehand. Them telling you 'no' is one thing, but it could even cause them to research how to keep us out, leading into the posting of a 30.06 sign.

Besides, isn't Taste Of Dallas where you go from one restaurant location to the next?
How could "the organizer of the event" determine whether you could carry in the individual restaurants?
Now, if they supply transportation, they might be able to control carry in that. But not the restaurants.

Its an event held at a single location, on grounds used also for TX state fair, restaurant vendors bring their setup to this one location and you walk from one vendor to the next.

EDIT: the event, unfortunately, is located in a dangerous area

If it's on the farigrounds, it's city property, and CANNOT be 30.06 posted.

If it might be 51% I look it up ahead of time, if I am worried it might be posted 30.06 then I have my safe in my car, that is if I decide I still want to go in.

OK, you are correct. Forgot it was specified to be in the 30.06 wording when written. However, legal or not, if this one went to court, I really believe all the guy would have to do is present a copy of the email that he was told not to carry and it would be pretty hard to fight.
How do you figure? The written notice was clearly not in the format specified by 30.06. It would take a pretty sorry defense lawyer AND judge not to be able to beat that.

There may also be a question as to whether the respondent had authority to give that notice.

Besides, it's on city property. Doesn't matter if he got proper notice or not. (Just realized that Keith's response was before that fact came to light. But I agree with Rex B.)

Better yet, if you have an Android phone, you can get the TexasCHL App from the Market. It's basically the PDF, but easier to navigate.

Taste of Dallas is being held in Fairpark according to online info. According to Fairpark's online rules, you may carry with your CHL.

"Rules and regulations

We want guests to have a great time at Fair Park. We also expect you to respect our home.

Guests to Fair Park should be mindful of the following:

...<snip>....

Weapons and sharp metal objects, such as pocket knives, scissors and the like, are not allowed. The State of Texas does allow a person holding a valid concealed handgun license to enter into Fair Park with a concealed handgun. However, during the State Fair of Texas and some other special events, licenses will be examined at the entrance by an authorized security supervisor. In accordance with Texas laws that protect “premises where a high school, collegiate or professional sporting event or interscholastic event is taking place," handguns are never permitted inside the Cotton Bowl.

...<snip>..."

You could also call the Fairpark administration phone number to verify that a lessor may not supersede Fairpark's online posted rules.
