So they tore up her back yard where she gardened. Then when she planted in the front yard, they cited her. Efficiency displayed by both her and the city on this one. Indeed interesting.

This is simply an official getting their underwear in a twist. They think they have the power to make this woman do as they say, and they are going to do their best to make sure she does it or they will punish her as much as they can. It is quite disturbing how much authority those in these sort of positions have. They tore up her back yard and so she planted in her front yard. Those vegetables aren't hurting anyone. I hope someone with a cooler head prevails here.

In the interest of accuracy, the homeowner had to tear up her own front yard for sewer work. That's when she decided to plant a garden instead of grass or traditional landscaping.

The mayor is now suggesting that the city will revise the ordinance after receiving so much bad publicity.

However, the city planner disagrees.

Sounds like some dirty small-town politics.

I know my HOA says no vegetables in the front yard....I figure, fine, I'll grow my herbs in the front, never have had any luck with the veggies anyway. What I will try to grow can be in the back.

Gotta love HOAs ... City ordinance said no fence in front yard ... my mom put up a Trellis .... a trellis that looked like a fence, but a little vine was draped over it ...

I wonder how they would feel about watermelon, cantaloupe, or tomatoes?

I read this earlier at work and it is truly mind bending. Its ashamed when you cant grow a legal crop in your own yard. I hope she fights this with everything she has.

I wasn't thrilled about having an HOA, but because of the situation when we moved here, we were kinda stuck with it.

...I'm not sure about melons or tomatoes in the front, would probably have to look it up then try it...I'm just rotten enough to do it too.
