If someone had asked me, I would have told them that they won't rust.

I have an early P32 s/n 005xx and an early P3AT s/n 005xx, both blued.

I have abused them almost every way possible, sweating on them repeatedly with minimal care. I can't make them rust.

The P3AT did require several trips to Kel-tec in its early days. Service was always excellent.

Never had a problem with Kel-Tec customer service..They are very responsive...My blued p-11 is showing some signs of the blueing coming off as i carry it IWB and I do sweat...For a gun that is less than 300...It is pretty rugged and gives me the use I expect for an under 300 dollar daily carry. I have oil on a silicone rag and I wipe it down briefly each day and it's good to go...I have an xd-9 service..Fantastic gun but it is an unfair comparison if I stack up the p-11 to the xd-9...I am happy with my p-11 because it performs well for a little concealed carry...As far as accuracy goes...It is meant for short distance self-defense shooting and performs very well there...I would not enter competitive shooting with it however but for self-defense....it does what it is supposed to do...

You can't expect $1,000 performance out of a $280 gun...That's like running a Ford Focus in the Indy 500...

Exactly. The reason many of us carry little KelTec's, LCP's, LC9's and Taurus 709 Slim's is because Springfield and Glock don't make a weapon that fills that need. If Springfield made a single stack compact 9 in the XD platform, I'd have it.

I paid $250 for my PF9, never had any rust issues (and wouldn't care if I did as it is only surface rust), and sold it for about the same price several years later. My P3AT still resides with me after about 6 years. Never had any issues with it, it worked out of the box.

Soprry to hear about your issues with the PF9. I bought mine quite a while ago, carry it in my pocket almost daily (sometimes with and sometimes without a holster), and have never had any issues with rust. I live on the coast in one of the most humid areas you can live in the state, if not the nation.

As for the accuracy, mine has been fine. I can shoot it really well if I concentrate and make an effort. Squeezing off quick rounds is accurate enough that I feel if I ever have to use it, it will get the point across.

Hopefully Kel-tec fixes you up.

I've got an early second generation P3AT. Everything except the plastic frame has been replaced by Kel-Tec. Its been to Florida 3 times. Last time was when the springs went thru the slide. They milled the guide hole too deep and it wore thru. One thing, it still always went bang. And it is always under warranty.
My test for it is that any time I'm at the range I start out by yanking it out of my pocket and emptying the gun, as if I needed it. If something fails I will quit carrying it.

I have two PF9s, both with Chrome Slides. I have no issues with Rust and not shooting straight.
Both are swell guns. I did have some problems with a Keltec .380 several years ago, first generation, but Keltec sent me the parts to fix it muy pronto and its worked ever since.

I've found the Keltec Machining Company to be courteous, professional and caring about customer relations.
And I don't work for Keltec, own any stock in the company or know anybody who works for the company.

Thanks for all the advice/responses...

I sent back the slide and barrel as requested by Kel Tec customer service. I also put a request in with the parts to upgrade my slide to chrome and contact me with the cost so we could make this right. We will see how this pans out. Im anxious to have a nice little shooter that I can carry with confidence.

That's hopeful news... The rust was an ancillary annoyance as opposed to the fact that after having adjusted the windage as far right as possible and then bench firing the weapon it STILL shot too far left for me to consider it a reliable EDC.

Adrenaline = loss of fine motor skills

And, Im sure youre well aware...in a situation where any minute angle off target at the end of the barrel will amount to a very large angle off target the farther out you go... So, I'm not too comfortable having an inherent disadvantage from the get-go...
