YUP. A lot of times, anything you code belongs to them.

I signed a contract that states specifically that - among other things. They own any IP that I create, even if it's on personal time with personal equipment, etc. If I want to work on personal projects, I have to go to management, disclose my new IP, and ask them to waive their rights to it. I haven't done this yet, but so far they've been pretty good to my co-workers in this regard.

Overall, the employment agreement I have with them is very restrictive and one-sided, so much that it was almost a deal-breaker for me. I tried to negotiate with them, but they wouldn't budge. In the end, I took the job anyway because there are so many positive things about it - even in spite of the agreement, it was too good an opportunity to pass up.
