I shoot (pistols) at Red's at both of their locations. I prefer the North (Pflugerville) location as the place is cleaner and the staff is more friendly. I like Red's because you can drop in and for $14.00/hr shoot in an air conditioned place. The ventilation is good too. I have purchased several guns there ... as it is not quite as crowded as McBrides or Cabella's .... one can really take ones time to drool on all the firearms. Monday's in woman's day and they shoot for half price and all the gun rentals are free.

I work at the north location. It doesn't surprise me that some of the forum members here shoot there; but I suppose I wouldn't know who you were even if I saw you.

For non-members, Reds requires you to fill out a slip of paper that contains your name, signature, and full address. Is this common? What are done with these records?

It is basically a liability forum. It says if you were to shoot someone on the range or someone were to shoot you; you would need a very good lawyer to sue reds. Civil suits against the person who shot you would still be completely open. But reds itself would not be responsible. It also gets information for those who walk out on bills. I think they try sending a notice to the address letting them know they have an unpaid bill. But its really up to them if they come back and pay it.

They are very nice to me and its very close to where I live

I have been to red's north many times. I have never had any problem with the RSO's there. The nice thing about an indoor range like Red's is that there is little to no setup time. It is a great place to go on a lunch break or on the way home from work. I have never heard them tell anyone they sucked at shooting and quite frankly 75% of the shooters can't stay on paper at 7yds so it seems like there would be plenty of opportunity.

I am also a member out at the Austin Rifle Club and that is a great place to shoot. Since the setup time and requirements for what you need to bring a little bit greater I tend to shoot there on the weekends.

I've had the same experience. The RSO's are very friendly to all levels of shooters and have often provided great recommendations regarding equipment, etc. Overall a great environment, if only a bit more expensive than other ranges.

Count me in for a meet up at Red's. I'm 5 min from there.

...I live out near Dripping Springs and stop by Red's south from time to time to shoot. As mentioned, it's easy and fast getting in and out of there and I have yet to have a problem with any of the RO's. I don't really need any help when I'm in there - I bring my own ammo (although I did buy a few mags for my Glock 36 there), but as expected their ammo prices are high (as are their gun prices - I looked a HK P30 there that was listed $100 higher than what I bought it for at McBride's). So, do your homework before buying anything on impulse there - you could way overspend.

My biggest complaint about the indoor ranges is that if someone is in there shooting something heavy - it's brutal. I've been the next stall over to guys shooting carbine's and .44 mags and god knows what else...but it's pure misery. I have had no issues asking the RO's to move when their are stalls available in those situations. The only other issue I run into down south is that the air circulation inside often blows my targets around at standard distances (3/7 feet). So, you have to mess around with getting the target to a spot where it's not drifting back and forth in the breeze. It seems to happen more on certain stalls though because of where the AC vents are located.

Overall, everyone there seems very friendly to me - even had a very knowledgable gentleman behind the counter spend 15 minutes with me walking me through a HK P7 that they had on consignment there. I loved it - so much I bought one (online through a third party) as they were asking WAY to much for it and it wasn't the model I wanted anyway.

I'd give them a thumbs up though for pure convenience and no hassles.

Yup, that's about the best you can do. Indoor ranges definitely have issues with "boomers" - there's just no room for the compression wave to expand, so if you're too close, you feel it in your bones. A few days ago, I was taking some Canadian friends shooting at Red's North. They were shooting my GSG-5 as a "warm up." Unfortunately, next to them was a guy shooting an old Mosin-Nagant. Sounded like a cannon going off. Best thing to do is use foam inserts PLUS over the ear protectors.

So you're saying if we have a meet up I SHOULDN'T bring my AMD-65? Those muzzle brakes only boom a LITTLE.....
