Re: Bought a Sig Sauer 1911 / 22

Please note that this discussion now involves two distictly different .22LR pistols marketed by SIG, the 1911-22 and the Mosquito. Divided Attention and I have previously commented only on the 1911-22, while others have commented on the Mosquito. At this point, I am not certain which comments from everyone pertain to which pistol, so I wanted to clarify what the OP, my wife and I were commenting on.

A breakdown of the distinct .22LR pistols SIG offers presently:

The 1911-22 (and GSG .22, which is essentially the same gun marketed by a different company) is made in Germany and uses a full size alloy 1911 grip frame, a full size alloy slide, and controls that operate the same as a "regular" 1911. The trigger is SAO. SIG says the finish is PTFE (Teflon). Weight of the 1911-22 is around 30 oz. empty on my scale. SIG says it is 34 oz. with a magazine. The manual of arms differs from a regular 1911 when it comes to takedown and reassembly, due to the aformentioned extra pin and screw which enable the barrel to be fixed to the grip frame, creating a fixed-barrel blowback operated .22.

The Mosquito uses a polymer frame and alloy slide, and is styled after the classic SIG pistol line. It is 24.6 oz. with a magazine and operates in a DA/SA manner like its "full-size" brethren. It differs from the full-size classic SIGs in having an additional safety lever on the slide and by being a simple blowback, fixed barrel. I do not know if the grip frame is full size compared to its 9mm .357 SIG and .40 brethren, or if it is slightly scaled down. The slide says that it is made in Germany.

SIG also makes a line of thier Classic pistols in .22LR -- a P220, a P226 and a P229 .22 -- that are different products from the Mosquito. These feature an alloy frame, no slide mounted safety, and caliber exchange kits to use the same frame for 9mm, 40 S&W and .357 SIG. They also explicitly mention in their sales material that these models fit holsters and accessories for the full size pistols.

Since two different (now three or more) SIG .22 LR pistols have been discussed in this thread, it would be helpful for everyone to clearly indicate which pistol they refer to in each of their comments.
