MoJo wrote:The only time I've had any dealings with Fry's was about 10 years ago at the store on I-45 N in Houston. They had non-compliant "no weapons" signs and some HPD cars parked in the parking lot with officers inside the store and in the parking lot. From this I deduced it might be a high crime area. :evil2:

I bought a PC from them that lasted a good long time. Decent customer service, no complaints.

yea they have that fence around the whole parking lot for a reason up there.lol they had a major problem with people stealing stuff and getting right on the freeway from the parking lot.

yea being a pc tech i know my way around the store. once i bought a highend tv from them and got the cold shoulder after i wouldnt buy the warranty.oh well.

I don't like the way Fry's treats customers especially young people serching them at the door

Frys will hurt in the long run . By running off young customers and your busisness will

eventually fail due to loss of customers. Treat young people with respect

it will catch up with you later

Neither do I. Come to think of it, I think nearly all of the electronics stores around here do it. There is online shopping, but sometimes I don't have time to wait for it to ship (and sometimes it's on sale locally). They can't legally prevent you or your stuff from leaving unless they suspect you of shoplifting, but IIRC they can be charged with unlawful somethingerather if they're wrong. I think I remember reading somewhere that refusing to be searched is not by itself enough to constitute suspicion, but I might be thinking of refusing to be searched by police when they pull you over.

In any case, I've always just smiled and waved on my way out if the line is long or I'm in a hurry. So far nothing's happened.

You folks using the word searched are putting a huge misconception out there. They are NOT searching anybody coming or going from that place! They are simply asking to look in the bag of merchandise you have purchased to make sure it has all been paid for. I suppose it would be better to just let the no good low down thieves get away with stealing to protect this horrifying intrusion of your privacy! Then they can just mark everything up even higher to pay for the thefts. All so we don't have to open a bag and show a receipt. Really folks... lighten up!

ohhh your one of those people. yes the poilce are never searching you.they are making sure your drugs and illegals are paid for and you paid your taxes on them also.so you dont mind if a cop searches you without reason? or maybe poilice comes to your house to search it for no good reason?maybe when your carrying your gun in your car you dont mind he tear your car apart looking for other things because we all know anyone who carrys a gun has got to be up to no good.

i guess you support unlawful search and siezure.

maybe we should just change the constitution right now and all america to be like the nazi germany and take your stuff just becuase.

oh yea and they arent checking to make sure its all been paid for because ive had were the guy rang up 1 item twice and the one he didnt was more expensive by about 11 dollars.the door people didnt find the mistake and i only did until i got out to my car and saw it was wrong.so your argument doesnt hold up.

That is one seriously "out of wack" analogy! From the perspective of all the normal folks out there, you are "one of those people". I guess my tin foil hat isn't fitting right. ;-) How in the heck did you get to being strip searched from showing a receipt at the exit to prove you paid for your item?

Stay out of the store if it means so much to ya! I am sure they won't care.

I don't know if that's true. The store might actually prefer them to stay out if they won't follow the rules.
