That's why it's called the Gun Control Act of 1968! They even told us what they were trying do back then and we continued down the slope.
I retired early partly because I tired of listening to uninformed ultra opinionated youngsters that refused to consider anything other than their opinions and interpretations on everything from processing issues to contract. Strange thing is they never lost standing with some of the top managers even though they continued to repeat failed endeavors over and over. Us old guys tried to tell them "been there, done that" and it didn't work then and won't work now. I had a raw tongue from constantly having to bite it, so I just left.

We had two violations of weapons in cars the last couple of years I was there (I retired in 2006) one was fired and one was given disciplinary time off. The fired employee had other circumstances involved. Both weapons were in plain view. One was reported by another operator seeing it laying on the front seat of the vehicle and the other was found when guards encounterd an employee trying to enter the parking lot to remove the vehicle of a fellow employee that was being detained for theft of company property. We also had a shooting occur at the main plant entrance once. Domestic issue with his ex-wife that ended in her being wounded and him ending it with a self inflicted shot to the head.

Or like me where I walk in to the Boss/Owner's office and sitting on his meeting table is an AR15 and other assorted rifles and several cases of ammo.

I have been retired (thank God) for 6 years and fortunately I no longer have to deal with this issue.

Before I retired I did what I felt I had to do in order to be safe traveling to-and-from work regardless of company policy.

If the parking area is outside of the refinery gate - no problem. Perhaps parking arangements can be secured on nearby property, and walk if all employee parking is inside the gate.
