You know, I do not think the premises of a fire station are a non-carry area unless posted. I wonder if any of those guys carry, or if it is even allowed. Just blue-skying...but wouldn't that have ruined this jack-rearend's day?

Since they are, in most cases, owned by the city the fire houses aren't posted but it can be against city policy for employees to carry while at work. But if a friend visits who has a CHL they are not required to disarm.
I know for a fact that Tyler FD station 2 has a gun busters sign on the the front of the building between two bay doors.
I walked right on past it and all was good.
It would have been a bad day for someone if that crap had gone down when I was down there for my annual visit to a friend on the dept.

This was really dangerous REALLY DANGEROUS! What ever happened to the good old days of shaving cream and feathers pranks, or shirt in the freezer pranks. Etc etc etc. In general I find pranks to be really unfunny, but this one goes beyond all sense. The consequences for this one need to be severe.

Hit him with a fire ax. That will slow him down.

WoW...

How is THAT any type of prank?!? The worst we did to the rookies was tape them to a backboard and lie them in the Apparatus bay under the outlet for the tender and douse them or freeze their keys in the middle of 5 gallon bucket...

This guy is lucky no one was a little more courageous and grabbed a knife from the kitchen and hacked him to ribbons!

Mop sinks and buckets of dishwater from upstairs windows...yeeeeaaahhh.

Ive been a Fulltime FF/Para for 18 years. I cant believe not one guy said this is a bad idea before it even went down. We are allways in the public eye even when we are at our stations. People are allways stoping by as its the tax payers building! I love my fellow brothers but this was just plain dumb.

Thats what I told my partner is what amazed me most about the whole thing.
Some doofus had to come to the guys and say "Hey, I've got this idea" and some other nimrod had to chime in and say "Oh yeah, that sounds great! Lets do THAT!"
My 13 yr old nephew could have told you that this was a bad idea.
Stupidity knows no bounds.

...at my age, nimrod has a good meaning...but looking in the urban dictionary, I understand...but numbnuts' urban dictionary definition fits these guys better...oughta be some vacancies in the dept...

...well, after reading the update, they handled it pretty forcefully...I love firemen even more than cops...but someone coulda easily lost their life over this...glad the Dept. made the point clear...horseplay is fine...but there are limits...

Some of those guys in the video seemed scared out of their minds (as I would probably would be). This "experience" would have me shaken up for some time. I hope the rookies didn't come out with any unforeseen negative effects.

Well, I think they got the punishment all wrong.

Lt. Timothy Pruitt will be issued a "counseling statement" concerning management and behavior of his assigned personnel.

Capt. Stephanie Burke will receive a two-shift suspension concerning "management and behavior of her assigned personnel" and station morale.
If these two had any prior knowledge, they should be out the door. If they had no idea what was going to happen, then that speaks volumes about their lack of leadership and they should be out the door.
