Banks have never been statutorily off limits in Texas. The rule is simple. Federal property = off limits. The UPS Store, gas station, hardware store, etc that provides some postal services or sells stamps is not federal property.

Could have sworn they were of limits but decade + old memories sometimes get muddled. Maybe my thinking was due to all the no gun signs, 30.05?, of the time.

That was and still is, although less so, a common misconception because of the whole FDIC thing. Some banks even tried to say they were off limits because they are "federally" insured. Some still do, but also not as many.

Banks are definitely off limits for CC in Montana which is a Gold Star OC state - and it seems that every major grocery store has a branch bank in it. Go figure???

Actually I found far fewer places off limits under Indiana law than Texas. In fact when I first moved up there the only places listed as off limits in the firearm codes were river boat casinos & commercial airplanes. The river boat casinos were the most interesting because first, they had to offer gun check services and second, the restriction INCLUDED off duty LEOs. I believe they've now added buildings with metal detectors and some government buildings.

Even gun buster signs, which are enforceable there, were very few and far between. There were also fewer places off limits in Kentucky.

I have carried in Kilgore's dozens of times and will continue to do so. It isn't a federal facility. It is a hardware store. You can buy stamps at most grocery stopres but that does not make them post offices.
