That's true if you're an upstanding citizen.
A teen gangbanger can carry wherever he wants. Even if he gets caught AND convicted, the judge is likely to give him a slap on the wrist and seal his record. You see, they don't want to infringe on his right to victimize the good people unconstitutionally disarmed by evil laws passed by evil men.

I carry my gun all of the time and everywhere I legally can with some exceptions, one of which is on school property. My best friend of 27 years is a LEO in Baytown Texas and has been for about 19 years now. He explained that the Depts worse fear is and active shooter at school. That being said, I would rather not be the MWG call at a school and discuss this at length in our classroom. There is a very real chance of being killed and at the very least it will cost a great deal of money.

...I respect your choice not to carry on school property even when/where you would be perfectly legal in doing so...that is your choice...I understand that LEOs are very touchy about guns on school property, and don't blame them...
...I take exception to this part of your post: "...There is a very real chance of being killed and at the very least it will cost a great deal of money."
...this, especially broadcast by an instructor...under color of your position, is intimidating, Chicken Little-like, and the last part is downright false...there is a very real chance of being killed in MOST of law-abiding life...gun-related or not...and a properly concealed CHL acting totally within the law has no reason to fear "being killed" for doing so...as far as it "...will cost a great deal of money."...not likely so...and that's just cheap scare tactics to promote your personal opinion and choice...you could "what-if" and "OH, NO!!!" away ALL of our rights that way...as to your insinuating that we're not using our brains if we don't agree with you...flush that...
...I would expect a more fair and balanced statement from one so thoroughly familiar with the laws and intents of CHL...

Yup, that's why I'm always armed in the parking lot in my car dropping my niece off or picking her up after school/band practice etc, and disarm prior to exiting when and/or where it would be illegal such as school events occurring/going in a building etc.Brian Mobley wrote:I carry my gun all of the time and everywhere I legally can with some exceptions, one of which is on school property. I'd really hate to explain to my brother why I couldn't protect his daughter when he knows I carry everywhere it's legal, and she'd expect me to be armed too, so if I wasn't, it could get us in a lotta trouble if she had confidence in my ability and I left my ability at home.

I am carrying in my holster on my hip whenever I drop off or pick up my daughter from school. There are several LEOs also picking up there kids, one is usually in uniform, and they all know I have a CHL and am armed. One of them is also a LEO in the city the school is located. Not one of them have ever suggested that I not carry there.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

...I'd betcha they're glad you're around and glad to see you, knowing you're armed...thats the way the locals are here...we do our thing legally and they're glad we do...if they weren't, we'd just have to deal with them...I hate official oppression and will NOT live in fear...I rate schools high on my dangerous place list...glad my sons are all out of there...they have and will be targets for evil, and someday one of us may be able to stop it...but not with a hand full of good will...
Re: Sign Posted at Austin High School
They seem to be. Two of them have daughters in my daughters class. We are all on a first name basis and I've been in one of their homes, invited, more than once and was armed each time. I have also taken one of their daughters out on a play date with my daughter. Yeah, I think they're cool with it.speedsix wrote:...I'd betcha they're glad you're around and glad to see you, knowing you're armed...thats the way the locals are here...we do our thing legally and they're glad we do...if they weren't, we'd just have to deal with them...I hate official oppression and will NOT live in fear...I rate schools high on my dangerous place list...glad my sons are all out of there...they have and will be targets for evil, and someday one of us may be able to stop it...but not with a hand full of good will...

Why would it cost any money? If you are not doing anything wrong then it will likely get sorted out at the scene and you go away, worst case is it gets sorted out at the station. You will likely not face charges if you did nothing wrong. Secondly, why would you be the center of a MWG call unless you failed to conceal? It is your choice not to carry wherever you want but at least be logical and not emotional about it.Brian Mobley wrote:I carry my gun all of the time and everywhere I legally can with some exceptions, one of which is on school property. Re: Sign Posted at Austin High School
After some reflection I have decided that my post about school carry was a over the top and I respect those who are not afraid to dare the system in the name of our duty to carry. I too feel a certain urgency or even compelled to carry my gun most everywhere.
However I would like to clarify a few points, first I carry my gun on or near school property somewhat regularly because there is a school in my neighborhood where I walk or my dog is walking me. I also carried when my son was younger in a holster, on my hip when I dropped him off at school (he is now in college).
That being said, I carry my gun with a great deal of awareness, even more than usual because I have spoken with many LEO's as well as teachers and other school employees and a top concern is responding to a possible active shooter in a school. If my gun were to be seen by anyone (who does not know me), the school policy is to go on "lock down" and I have now become the dreaded man with a gun call at a school. I may be able to plead is was not an intentional display at a grocery store or other public area but likely to fall on deaf ears on school propety. I would also bet that the local PD would send out a number of units to respond to a call like this and I dont think this is overreacting on my part.
Pretend you are talking to a parent while standing by the front door outside of the middle school that knows who you are, say a gust of wind blows your jacket open, say there are little ones running around every where, say the Vice Principal, who does not know you sees the gun clearly. What do you think happens? Does the VP calmly walk out and investigate, maybe ask you a few questions or does she decide to make the "call".
Lastly, I truly appreciate the responses because as a CHL holder for 14 years as well as an instructor I feel it is my obligation to keep an open mind. I often remind students that my job is not to train them but to get that bump on their shoulders thinking and preparing their system.

...now THAT'S fair and balanced...thanks for the reminder of just how critical it can be that we do CHL legally, carefully, and while wide awake!!!

It is usually better to be safe than sorry
if too many of us push the limits too much
the anti gun side will be able to get an in with
the law makers and put more restrictions on us
I don't go where I'm not welcome if a place says no guns
I stay away from it. Keep it low key and keep your rights
drop your kid off and pick up near the school but off the grounds

...nope...too many good men and women fought too hard to give us the right to carry within the law and to allow us to carry as many places as possible...and that's the way I'll carry...totally within the law...standing proud and tall, not sneaking around so as not to offend someone who wants to take my rights away or curtail them further...I don't start trouble, I don't look for it, I don't pick arguments, but if they're going to keep me from excercising my legal rights in their place, they're going to do it by the law...just like I'm carrying...written law trumps their opinion or mine...that's why we HAVE laws...to protect ALL of us!!!
...that's not pushing the limits, nor is it keeping it low key...it's just doing CHL as it was written...and as the law reads...as a group of people, CHL holders have given those who would take or curtail our rights further less examples to work with than any other group in Texas...we're the GOOD GUYS...

Amen and Amen, my brother. Besides, a gun-buster sign, or a "No weapons allowed" kind of sign simply makes me smile on the inside as I walk into the business. I do not see it as an "anti" message at all.
