Hmmmm.... Consider this:

If you lease a truck for 1 year, and you turn it in at 6 months, you might still owe for the remaining 6 months. If you rent a car for 1 day, but you turn it in 2 hours later, you still owe for the whole day. Either way, you are responsible for the vehicle until it is returned.

Are they truly different?

Also, who is paying for the rental? If the employee is paying for it—without reimbursement—then it is the employee's vehicle during the rental period. If the company is paying for the rental, either up front or by reimbursement, then it is the company's vehicle during the period of the rental. It seems like a no-brainer to me. Is there something I'm not getting here?

I am personally sympathetic to the OP. I would rather carry if I can. But if it is a situation in which he might lose his job if found out, even if he has broken no laws, then really only he can make that decision whether to carry or not. It's not illegal, but it might get him fired.

Does it matter who pays for the rental car? They're not prohibiting you from having a gun in their parking lot.

See? I find this an interesting topic. All in all, I chose not to take it with me. It stayed in my car in the parking lot, though.

I do like my new job a lot...having a wife and three mouths to feed also factors into this in the end.
