Last time I got pulled over (niece had sealtbelt on incorrectly)

I had my car turned off, flashers on, keys on dash, wallet on dash, both licenses and insurance in my hand, hands on wheel (was daylight or else dome light would have been on) So, Officer was comfortable I wasn't going to take off with keys on dash etc etc ..

He warned my niece to wear her belt properly so it would actually protect her in a wreck.... and told us to have a nice day, and I thanked him ...

He never asked for ID, I showed him nothing, volunteered no info.... no reason to and no requirement to, since he didn't ask.

My niece (soon to get a driver's license) learned what to do/how to act, if pulled over.

========================

If he had asked for insurance and ID, I'd hand them to him.
Then
If he asked if I was armed (most people up here are) I'd have answered his questions.

I hand both my TXDL and my TXCHL, then let the LEO ask.

After the LEO chastised me, he looks around the car and compliments me on our dog riding in back. Oh, by the way, can I see your driver's license? So, I hand my DL and CHL over. He looks at them, and asks, "What do you carry?" "Sig 239," says I. "I like my Glock," he says. "Oh," I said, "that's what my wife carries."

"Be more careful, and have a nice day."
Were you implying that a Glock is a girls gun ? :smilelol5:
Ha ha! No...

... I actually occasionally carry my wife's Glock 19.

I dont' think anybody said this already. If you're not carrying you might want to hand over the CHL too, because when he runs your DL through the computer it will tell him you have a CHL, then he'll come back wondering why you didnt' tell him.

No penalty for not telling, but it might make the stop go easier.

...from several reports here and one personal experience, seems that in Tx, the majority of LEOs view a CHL as being one they can extend a break to...I'm for givin' it to 'em carrying or not!!! my wallet can use a friend these days... :iagree:

If a LEO asks for your ID for any reason, you MUST show your CHL along with it, whether he asks for it or not. When he goes back to his car and runs your ID through his computer, it will come up that you're a CHL holder. Then you could be in trouble for not providing your CHL.

You MUST show your CHL ONLY if you are carrying. Not required legally if you are not.

I would add that the penalty for not showing, even while carrying, has been removed. So you will not be in trouble (for that). But you should show it if carrying even though there is no penalty. Seems many think it reduces LEO's response or attitude if you show it even when not carrying.

Many LEOs are going to give you a stern lecture if you hand over your CHL like that. They are going to want to know why the heck you aren't carrying.

You may have been joking but that actually happened to me with HPD late on a friday night. Not a stern lecture but "strong advice".

Overall I have had positive experiences with them. I do like to drive fast (safely) so the occasional fine is karma. There is the very rare jerk but i simply say "sir" and get away asap.
