.30/30 has similar ballistics to the 7.62x39 Russian cartridge. Thus, a short barreled 336 (or other similar manufacturer's product) in .30/30 is the rough equivalent of a diminished capacity SKS or AK47—dirt simple, reliable, reasonable accuracy inside of 200 yards, and, very handy. Any one of those three makes an ideal truck gun, and it is no wonder that lever rifles are so popular. Definitely on my list of things to buy.....but unfortunately for me, not today.

I have been looking for a pre '82 (no safety bolt) 336 in 30-30. I had one back in my college days of the 70s. It had he checkered stock. My research suggests depending on year model, a 336ADL or there were some years in the 336C with checkering. Anyone come up with one, please let me know. thanks.

There's a guy on ther Marlin Owner's Forum that has 6 NIB 1969 Marlin 336C's with consecutive S/N's that he's going to sell. You have to register to view their for sale posts and threads. No idea what he'll ask.
