Beg to differ. An "Expert" is someone who does not know anything more about the subject than you do, but has their material better organized, uses color graphics and videos, and lives from at least 50 miles away from you.
Looking at Dublin, CA on the google maps, if you go due north of the running track located on the east end of the santa rita jail complex, you will see the area they use for the alameda bomb range. The terminus of the range is just west of the white circular oil/water tank.
Looking at the terrain lay out and potential range fans, any sane person would orient any kind of direct fires in a northerly/northwesterly direction along the long axis of the draw the range appears to be in, as it affords the greatest amount of possible safe impact area. Being a demo range, they often times don't have the direct fire control measures/range fans in place as charges are not directional unless made to be, and the general concern is max net explosive weight.
According to the article, their shot landed about 1000M EAST of the range, and managed to not only clear the high ground surrounding the range, but also a few blocks worth of houses before it impacted.
My question is what...in....THE.....
I'd like to know how they pulled that one off, as that round seems to have defied the laws of physics, unless they fired it oriented to the east, which would be not only stupid, but down right negligent.
