Any Suggestions for Avoiding Checked Bag Fees?

Either having elite status or getting an airline credit card. Those are the only ways I know to avoid baggage fees, besides flying Southwest Airlines.

Bingo. Fly an airline without (first) baggage fees. Fly an airline (or partner) where you have 1337 status. Fly an airline where you have some other relationship that waives baggage fees.

If it was cheap and easy to avoid the fees, there wouldn't be much profit in the airlines having the fees.
