I usually take my weapon out of the IWB holster and leave it in the truck. When I'm finished I tuck it back where it belongs. No problems so far and no explaining in the Dr. Office. I have never been asked about the holster during exams with my shirt off but just a small portion is visible. Comp-tac Minotaur IWB.

My doc knows I carry - we had a nice conversation about how he could go about getting his license and what to carry. He related that in his previous place of employment, a lot of the docs carried because of the narcotics in the clinic - seems that discouraged some folks from taking without asking.

My doc and I play show and tell with guns, his first question after "hello, how are you?" is usually "what are you carrying today?"

For my family doctor, I don't mind them knowing and would carry on body. If you want to remain concealed, that's a great time for an ankle or pocket BUG. I've also used the backpack carry option. It used to be my default for most of my initial license term.

I've heard whispers that our hospital is posted, but I always enter through the "professional office building" (~6 story doctor offices attached to the hospital on two floors), which is not posted, and I've never been notified that I'm not welcome there. I definitely feel no compulsion to circumnavigate every building I enter inspecting every doorway on a treasure hunt for signs. YMMV.

My Doc said to switch from my usual carry (S&W 629 4"/S&W 457 alternate), to my S&W 642 to prevent back pain reoccurring. He told the nurse to subtract 2 lbs. off the scale to compensate..

I use a Maxpedition Fatboy-S Versipack or a fanny pack when I go to my doctors' offices. Never been an issue, although the OP's description sounds like, if he had to empty his pockets before going in the restroom, they probably would insist he leave a fanny pack/Versipack behind too. There may be people who carry a bottle of someone else's urine around in their bags—just in case—but I'm not one of them. In the Versipack, the main compartment isn't where the gun goes. I'd just open it up and show him....."See? Nothing here.....just my Bible."

Will be offering a lot of waived testing, but have not convinced the CEO to get iStat capabilities. Still hoping to get that since it makes decision/diagnosis making so much easier when you do not have to wait for a day.

It will be in Flint, Texas. Little tiny town. Hopefully advertising will bring in people from the surrounding area.

My husband has done this. He usually carries IWB in the small of his back, but he has started carrying in his pocket when he is going to the doctor with a BUG, usually the Taurus 740 Slim or Taurus revolver.

If going to the doctors I carry my handgun in my laptop/briefcase. I also get random drug tests quite often. I just leave it in the console.

never thought about that , but i havent been to a regular doctor since i moved to texas ...just yearly physicals from my work (in Louisiana ) , and since we get drug tested everytime they ask us to empty our pockets , im not sure (assuming its not posted ?? ) if it would be worth the hastle , they dont have the brightest folks at the industrial clinic in LA. even showing my TEXAS chl might get me a cop called .... cant say im gonna push the issue over these . but a gun friendly physician sound sweet
