Instead of me telling you why I am not authorized to speak on this subject, how about I tell you why I'm not going to dignify your question with an answer? When your very first post is snotty, my reaction is "do your own research."

Just more troll fodder in this case TAM. I will bet he is another 'one hit wonder' that we get.

And looking at statistics, while we have almost 10,000 registered members, over 3000 of them have never even made one post. And approximately 325 more have made only 1 post. As a matter of fact, we only have about 1500 members that are at Member or Senior Member status (more than 45 posts.)

Now, I am sure there are a few of those that mainly read and don't post, but this is a real common scenario on forums. Easy to sign up for, but then move off when they don't see or get what they think they want.

So, if you really look at any forum, you will see that the regulars that hang out there are a small number, and the majority of the rest either drop in occasionally to post or read, and a large portion of the remainder are those that hit once and run.

I will say though, IMO we have the BEST regular members of any gun forum on the Internet! :thumbs2:

Even I know I'm a good 2-3 years away of being able to address the membership in that manner. And even then, that's not my style... :nono:

That's a pretty big assumption (that the OP is an adult - in age or mental development), Mr Surveyor. :nono:

When you say "WE are having a hat...." You must have a mouse in your pocket. With a post like yours you are obviously too young to understand.

That's actually a self-inflicted wound, Keith - back in the early days of dial-up BBS's, you could usually read anything on a board (forum), or at least most sections of a board, without registering or buying a membership. To gain full access, you often had to register and get a password (a manual process for the SYSOP, usually) sent to you, and to gain access to the premium stuff, buy a membership. That way, someone who hung around was probably going to be a serious user.

A lot less trolls in those days, but then again, now we've got a BBS that's available to hundreds of simultaneous users worldwide, and attitudes have changed to the point where SYSOPs want to know who's using their board (even though the only information that's really verifiable is the email address where the confirmation email is sent).

But, even with that, the number of trolls here isn't bad compared to some other boards I visit occassionally (really bad on gamers and programmer forums).

Wow Wayne, I haven't heard the term 'BBS' is ages... Brings back memories, good and bad.

Used to run an Atari board in Houston back in the day called The Bit Bucket. Had a stack of DSDD floppy drives that'd make anyone jealous.

You know, if you have your Texas CHL one of the things you had to sign was an affidavit stating you have read and understand the penal code...

"rlol" just last week I found an issue of Bulletin Board magazine in my home-office - back in those days, I had to start building computers so I could call California long distance to connect to Bill Cheek's / COMMtronics Engineering BBS. ... I never did get Fidonet set up ... but, who needs E-mail? I don't think it will catch on  ... :coolgleamA:

The sad thing is that the world is full of people who are so full of themselves that they think it is ok to crap on perfect strangers. In fact, they feel that they are entitled to crap on people, and the anonymity of the Internet makes them brave.

...that "entitled" feeling I don't understand...most of us here are humbled by life and trained by our difficult experiences enough to realize we don't have all the answers, and feel constrained to share what we can to help others have a smoother ride than we did, and help them do better than we did...and that somehow provokes some to sneer at us and play with our goodwill??? They don't know enough to know how badly they need help...sad indeed...and though they cause us some discomfort...I pity them for what they'll have to go through to learn...

AH! fellow SYSOP! I got started with a RatShack Model 3 (two internal floppies and two external floppies) running a brand new to the market Hayes 300 Smartmodem that could only do half of the AT Command stack, for some reason. It was the "Cowtown CoCo BBS", aimed at users of the TRS-80 Color Computer. Used that modem for about six months, then one of the engineers from Hayes who had also had a CoCo dialed in - got to know him pretty well over a few weeks and he turned me on to a beta--unit of the Hayes 1200 baud modem. Wow! 4 times as fast, and then later, it was a 2400 baud.

Turned it all off a little bit later when this new-fangled thing called CompuServe came to town, demonstrating their time-sharing computer systems... and wanted to get into the personal computing and information services. Started with the Color Computer SIG for CompuServe, then took over all of the Tandy SIGs a short while later. For a while, the money was good enough (users were paying something like $6.00 and hour, if I remember correctly, and I got 25% of that as royalties to pay myself and my helpers) that I was able to do it full time and be a stay-at-home daddy before it became fashionable!

I wonder if anyone is making any money of of BBS/forums nowadays? :smilelol5:

Man, those were the days!

Now, back on topic - I used to take revenge on the olden day equivalent of trolls with a war-dialer, until that became frowned upon by the feds. Sometimes I wish that movie (which shall remain nameless - harrupmph) was never made.

Why yes, the old Hayes Hackamatic, phreak out, phreak out and touch someone.....LOL

I ran the first GBBS ][ BBS to ever successfully operate on an Apple //c. Still have that computer buried in the garage somewhere. Still worked last time I checked, about 15 years ago!

Ran on a 300 baud modem, 2 SSDD floppies, and never could make a dime with it!

Man how things have changed. And boy am I glad I quit playing with "boxes" and such....

And to get back on topic, yes, we knew how to handle trolls then, and we know how to handle em today too. OP: RTFM....read the friendly manpage!
