OTTAWA -- The federal government is cracking down on a small game rifle, saying it was inappropriately classified as a non-restricted weapon.

But one firearms activist argues it's an end run by federal bureaucrats related to a long-running court battle.

<Registered> Owners of the Armi Jager AP80 .22-calibre rifle received a letter from the RCMP in December saying the registration certificates for the firearm would be revoked and they had a month to dispose of their weapons - with no compensation.

As of Dec. 20, the once legally owned gun would be classified as prohibited.

The RCMP didn't respond to media requests by press time. The force oversees gun classification through the Canadian Firearms Program.

Not as common as it once was because suppressor designs have changed, but BATFE also ruled that since rubber washers were used as wipes in suppressors, having just the rubber washers meant illegal possession of suppressor parts. IIRC they ruled once that a person who owned a legally registered suppressor could not also possess the wipes, and then they reversed themselves on that decision too. Anyway, it is basically another example of BATFE idiocy.

Because flat washers are great baffles for a homemade suppressor. I used thick flat washers to make my first one and they are pretty effective at both 9 mm and .22.

Remember that bump fire stock somebody made a few years ago? It wasn't a firearm, just a stock, so no need for any ATF ruling. But just to be safe he sent it to them anyway, they approved it said it was legal. He just got started selling them good a few months later and ATF changed their minds, made him destroy all his stock and give them his customer list so they could warn people they owned an illegal machine gun.

I think that was for the 10-22. The atkins accelerator was a bogus case as the trigger still fired one shot per pull. I can't believe it was never overturned.
