...unlike a liquour establishment, where the state gets pretty specific...control is pretty much, in practice, up to the owner of the business/establishment...that's why pawn shops that do, and gun stores that do, don't get in trouble...and I've never heard of law enforcement even remarking on the practice...if a man has authority to speak for the owner as to who comes and goes...and has keys to the place...that's a lot of control...I've never read of a case brought or decided that says otherwise...

Our chief, as well as department chiefs, numerous officers state, local, and federal don't think a thing about open carry in gun stores. I would imagine if the DA is unwilling to walk into an issue, most officers are usually willing to follow suit.

On the other hand, we had some clearly-ignorant-of-current-law former law enforcement officer do a seminar on church security (for church members and leaders) who stated: "No one may carry a weapon of any kind in a church - even if that person has a Texas concealed carry license." He got bombed by a couple of lawyers and several officers and CHL holders after the seminar. A correction to the reporting on the event in the local newspapers was made. He looked like an idiot.

...I'd'a raised my hand right there in the event...see if he'd call on me...and respectfully corrected him...not just because I'm a jerk...but because bad info from cops ignorant of the law's been gettin' people in trouble since AT LEAST the 70s...ask me how I know!!!
