snatchel, you are VERY fortunate that the shot damaged YOUR photo album and not the wife's. I've seen the rage over damaged memories.

Yep. It's her photo album of my pictures... and yes, she takes her photo albums very seriously. I bet there are 30 of them up on the bookshelves....
She is sitting right across from me. I have not told her. I am afraid.

I'd have already gone to the hardware store and had that new peephole installed in the door

Time to make a stand. "The first one was a warning. If you don't get all this clutter out of here, I'm taking it to the range with me!" (And in this moment, everyone has figured out that my wife doesn't read this forum.

As Forrest said, 'it hapeens". Some people fall off the second wrung of a ladder and that night they are dead. Be glad you were given a sobering message and no injuries beyond the bad photos.

Snatchel, ask me some day about the time I introduced a 240 grain .44 magnum hollowpoint to my bedroom ceiling...........not 6" from my left ear. That was in 1996. My left ear is still ringing as I type this. No joke.

Snatchel -
I am glad that the only thing that was hurt was your pride.
IMO you get an extra stamp on your "man-card" for your post.
Most posts about a ND result in assigning blame, pointing fingers and copius flames.
I think that others have learned from your experience and may prevent another incident.

You should make your brother tell your wife.

Well.. it wasn't me who pulled the trigger.. but I did not check the firearm... and that was definately my fault.
I have had an ND before.. thankfully it was at the range, and I was following all the other rules, so the round went downrange. Fact of the matter is, no one is really safe from an ND. They happen all the time, to anyone. I would venture to say that a lot of us here on the forum are more vulnerable than others for one reason: We all handle firearms .. a lot... and I know I have caught myself being complacent before......
TAM- we will need to discuss this accident of yours. My ears only stopped ringing a couple hours ago. Wood floors throughout house make for a heck of a boom.

Tough way to learn a lesson as an adult. I'm glad it wasn't any rougher.
He almost killed his brother all because of a stupid mistake that he probably thought he knew better than to make. I effectively made the same mistake I was 10 years old with almost the same results. It took me quite a while before I would touch another gun.
Please go easy on your brother and help him get past this. I don't know what to tell you about your wife, but one of you has to tell her. Hopefully, she won't totally freak out. Good luck!

...and did you not know that ONE of us would be brave enough to ask you what you were doing that close to the ceiling???
