I'd politely suggest you reconsider.

1)a magazine failure is the most likely stoppage you'll experience using a pistol. Having a spare allows you to ditch the offender and throw in a new mag to fix the problem.

2)there's a thread in the crime blotter right now about a BG who took 17 rounds of .40 and lived another 4 minutes. Even if you only have to deal with one attacker, you may need a reload.

3)the possibility of being attacked by more than one assailant is pretty high. Predators like working in packs.

4) the cliche phrase "I've never known a man who was in a gunfight and wished he had less ammo!"
:tiphat:
:iagree: Babyface Nelson was shot 17 times before he killed the 2 agents that shot him, then he went home. (Only to die later that evening)

Google and Read this headline twice, think about it (he's alive):
Angel Alvarez, hit 23 times in Harlem shootout with cops, held without bail on weapons charges.

Only on TV do people fall down after one bullet hits them, OH and in those States where Magazine capacity is limited because there's some law or they teach criminals in school that they have to fall down before the ammo runs out.

I typically carry three 9mm pistols, plus 1 spare 20 round mag.

...jeans and a pocket Tshirt...P90 and 3 spare mags...everyday...everywhere...wondering if that's enough...backup snub and 4 speed strips for reloads...you can carry what you decide to carry...

I'm a little guy, 5'9" 145 pounds, and I carry a full size, all steel 1911 often. Clothing choices, good holster, and a gun belt make all the difference.

For some of you new to concealed carry I have a very comfortable way to carry my Beretta Nano while keeping it totally concealed and easy to draw the gun very quickly. Amazon carries a fanny pack, made by KA-BAR the knife people, that is specifically made for pistols. You can see it here: http://www.amazon.com/Ka-Bar-TDI-Enforc ... d_sim_sg_1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I wear it on my right side since I am right handed. The add does not mention it but the pack comes with a heavy duty built in adjustable belt. There are 2 zippers on the gun pocket that meet in the middle. You can quickly unzip one zipper to draw. Here are a few photos.

I'm 6'6" and 290 lbs and I regularly carry a commander-sized Kimber 1911 in a Crossbreed Super-Tuck. For concealed carry I find it easier to conceal a single-stack 1911 than to conceal a compact double-stack .45 (like a Taurus PT145).

I'm not advocating against carrying spare mags, by any means, but comparing the kinds of defensive situations you might find yourself in as a CHL (let's hope not) to protracted police shootouts is probably not apples to apples.

The main difference being that as a CHL your main goal is not to apprehend a fugitive.

Going to go out on a limb and guess that long before that 23rd shot hit its mark, any of the police involved could high tailed it to safety if their personal safety was the overriding concern.

But again, carrying spare mags is a good idea, but more for functional reasons than round count.

It is not about if I need all 28 rounds, it is about if I have a failure with the magazine in the gun. 2 is 1, 1 is none

True
And then again, having just 28 rounds may make you wish you had more...
Not advocating shooting snakes ... just the mean ones ... so ask what mood each is in first

I think I would have to run, it is not that I am scared of snakes, it is that snakes in general and myself have a fond dislike of each other

That is basically what I said, but there are a number of posts talking about people soaking up exorbitant numbers of bullets in police shootouts.

They soak up less when the medicine is .45 caliber. The only problem is that people can live for several seconds, or longer, after sustaining a fatal gunshot wound. What they choose to do with that time is up to them, but some of them decide to do what damage they can. Please don't think real life imitates the movies and that one shot cures all.
