Speedo, I must have a few years on you. I seem to recall a time when you got 5 songs for a quarter. It was about the same time gum cost 5¢ per pack as did a bottle of 'coke' and a quarter would get a little more than a gallon of regular. Ethyl cost 10¢ more per gallon than did regular.

Things may have been less expensive in Harrisburg than where Speedo grew up.

...I remember the nickle gum and coke...too young to buy gas...and, strangely enough, I was in Bradford then...not too far from Hburg...used to play the jukebox at the booth in the Congress St. Diner, which was a converted railroad car restaurant...didn't spend my "go-to-town" dollar on music then...later, when I was in my teens, I'd spend my own money...but I'd talk Grandma into coughing up the music money back then....back when Kendall Motor oil was around...and Quaker State and Pennzoil were arch enemies...instead of part of the same company...and Case knives and Zippo lighters were two different companies...instead of merged...life was soooo good back then....

I remember nickel cherry/chocolate cokes at Piper's Drug Store. The druggist, Mr. Piper would make you a coke at the soda fountain. Piper's was in Detroit, 513.13 miles from Harrisburg, IL. It was owned by Mr. Piper.

That was before Walgreen's, CVS, and pharmacies at Walmart, Kroeger's and Randall's. Mr. Piper didn't have a jukebox, but I didn't have a nickel to put in it for a song. I listened to WXYZing radio for my music.

In Jr High, it was Webster's Drugs on the square. In High School, you graduated up to Parker's Midway closer to the HS.

Sam Parker was a WW II marine vet with oodles of pictures of dead japs on the islands he fought through (10 years previously). There was a HS guy who broke into the Midway for money. This was before drugs. He was caught and Sam gave him a choice of jail or the marines. This guy chose the marines and when I google Harrisburg, I see a business with his name on it.

Back then actions did have consequences and excuses were not accepted. I agree, those were the 'goodle days.

Ahh. I bought a jukebox from an older couple a couple years ago at a garage sale for $100 bucks. It still worked, but needed some electrical work and to be cleaned. I detailed it, re painted a few things, replaced some album covers, and did some re wiring. Ended up selling it on E-Bay for $1,200. I kinda wish I kept it.
