Dead student killed while waiting for a bus, but that didn't make sense when I read it. Unless the shooting thing started earlier before he got to school.

From what I understand there were students at this school that take buses from there to other schools in the system.

Which is one of the things zero tolerance seems not to apply to. In much the same manner as gun-free zones, it works against the good guys more than the bad.

One article I read (sorry don't remember which one) praised the sheriff's department for their rapid response.

While I don't wish to take away from our first responders, I very much apprecitate them, it was over by the time they got there.

The kid was chased out by a teacher (a first responder) and had left the campus (or nearly) by the time he was in custody, however it happened. The Sheriff's department had very little involvement. When will we learn that, by no fault of their own, the police will not get there in time to stop most shootings?

I also am always dumbfounded by statements like this, "This stuff doesn't happen here at Chardon. Everybody's a little upset," said one parent.

It is happening somewhere, what make Chardon, or any other city or town...or my town or school, so special that it can't happen there? Ostriches.

Not to detract from the job any good LEO does, but as they say, "When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away".

So, not only is a student dead, and others severely injured, but now we will have to hear the inevitable cries for more gun control. As if the laws in place made any difference. Of course, they didn't, not in the least little bit.

One, how dare you ask about his parents, and who are you to assume he had one of those dirty two-parent families...you know that they were just living a wonderful lifestyle and no one is allowed to pass any judgement on them and two, well according to the Brady Campaign, the NRA gave him the gun and told him to do that stuff...

Seriously, though, I'll wager that similar statements will be made in the press...

What about the parents of these students that are bulllying other kids. Why can't these parents beat the heck out of the their kids that bullying other kids. My parents out of beat the heck out of me if they thought I was doing that to other kids. Course, my parents have always told me to stand up for myself as well. If I was hit, I had every right to hit back, but if I was the first one to hit, I'd get beat at home.

Beating kids, even your own, is not in vogue.

The kid is family-less or whatever the social term would be. He was bullied for his looks and no help in sight. I just wonder how he managed to access the weapon, a pistol I guess. Was the pistol not secured in a safe at home? who is the real owner of the firearm?

In anycase there is no justification to what he did. It is only sad, that he was victim and now the criminal of his acts.

When I, a skinny, undersize, glasses wearing, etc, finally fought back against one of my bullies, my parents (each) beat me, and then forced me to dress up in suit and tie and go apologize to him and his mother, his father never came back from his WWII enlistment, but it was revealed years later that he wasn't killed, he just abandoned his wife and two kids and never came home when he got out of the Army. Needless to say I always felt ill used.

Despite locks and hidden keys, I always had access to my father's guns, never underestimate a kid's powers of observation and persistence, so I guess it's just one of life's little miracles that I didn't do the same thing.

I would like to see concealed carry in schools. It might change the incidence and fatality of these shootings.

Geez, when we in high school, we just had "bomb scares" to get out of school early...

Worse than that. There is no way I am beating my lids when that means losing my second amendment rights forever.

I have absolutely no confirmation, but on the radio this morning I heard that this kid was a very vocal supporter of Barack Obama and had participated in rallies and such on his behalf. The radio guys suggested that this may be the reason for a lack of Gun-control enthusiasts jumping on this incident.

Interesting quote here from one of the kids who witnessed the shooting:

Did I read that right? Our schools are training our children that in the event of an active shooting, they're to get under a table and wait to be executed?
