Try ammoman.com or aimsurplus.com for decent prices on bulk ammo. In 7.62x39 it should be between $199-225 plus shipping for a 1000rd case.

All the mags I've gotten from AIM have been g2g. You'd expect that from steel surplus AK mags, but just thought I'd throw that in there.cajunautoxer wrote:AIM has surplus mags for $10 and ammo is usually around $200. You can get the Yugo brass ammo but that is corrosive so you'll have to clean the AK after shooting. I usually do a annual cleaning of my AKs. Unless I shoot some 5.45 then semi annual
Lots of AKs have chrome lined barrels. Chinese are only considered desirable because they're no longer imported. They're not any better than some of the other AK offerings out there.drjoker wrote:go to a gun show and buy a norinco chinese ak. these are the best because they have a chrome lined barrel adn the receiver is thicker. some are even milled receivers instead of stamped. most are stamped, though.
Yeah, mine is a Hungarian parts-based "frankengun"...I did some upgrades to make it what I wanted it to be. It has a NoDak receiver for fixed buttstock, so I ordered a new dark green extended length polymer set from K-Var and a new East German rear sight and leaf spring to replace worn original...stripped off the old paint and repainted receiver/barrel with flat black high-temp engine block paint...swapped the muzzle brake for an AK-74 style knockoff...it really throws fireballs at the range, but I can put them all into about a 6x6 inch area at 50 yards (including fliers). And being an AK, it eats anything 7.62x39mm that I've run through it. I spent WAY too much doing all of that, but I like what I ended up with.74novaman wrote:Lots of AKs have chrome lined barrels.
