Oh sure, I knew somebody would go there. Just dont anybody mention beans/no beansWildBill wrote:C-dub wrote:Lump charcoal in a Big Green Egg here, but I wouldn't be anywhere near a pro.I would like to own a Big Green Egg. Too expensive for me.
I don't claim to be a "pro", but I do make some pretty good tasting food. Once, I actually had a guy tell me that I was "doing it wrong" because I was not using wood when I was making beer-can chicken. That didn't stop him from eating half a chicken and picking all of the meat off the bones and licking his fingers when he was finished.![]()
Maybe we can start a thread on a less controversial topic ... like chili.
Yep, I figured admitting to this mistake might earn me a bit of ribbing.OldCannon wrote:You'd think that somebody that has a blog about grilling would do this toopapajohn1964 wrote:I always turnoff the bottle.![]()
(Sorry, 74Novaman, you asked for that)
Pork or beef?74novaman wrote:Yep, I figured admitting to this mistake might earn me a bit of ribbing.![]()
I, also, prefer pork. I also like beans! Not neccesarily in my chili, but I like beans.74novaman wrote:I prefer pork ribs.
Oh and to the guy somewhere above me...Texas chili has NO beans!
I also worried about the cost the first time I saw one. I went looking for a traditional smoker/grill with the firebox on the side. When I went in the store the salesman asked if I needed any help and I asked to see the smokers. He said he would show me the last smoker/grill I would ever need. I went home and told my wife about it and mentioned I nearly choked on the price because I was looking for something in the $300-$400 range and the XL BGE that I liked was a little over $1k with the nest and all. She said, oh, that's not bad.WildBill wrote:C-dub wrote:Lump charcoal in a Big Green Egg here, but I wouldn't be anywhere near a pro.I would like to own a Big Green Egg. Too expensive for me.

I had never made my own chili until just a couple of years ago. I bought a slow cooker, found a few recipes on the web that sounded real good, and tried them out. After finding one that can easily be tuned for hotness I've made that one several times now. I use ground beef and ground sausage and black beans among other things. Even my mom, who doesn't like black beans, really likes my chili even with the beans.WildBill wrote:Maybe we can start a thread on a less controversial topic ... like chili.
I knew I could get y'all stirred up.Carry-a-Kimber wrote:Chili does not have beans. I don't know what you're cookin', but it ain't chili.

Exactly! That's why they have to call it "Texas Chili" as opposed to just Chili.74novaman wrote:I prefer pork ribs.

Have a friend who is from Louisiana. She puts corn and potatoes in her chili.C-dub wrote:Carry-a-Kimber wrote:Chili does not have beans. I don't know what you're cookin', but it ain't chili.![]()
Just be glad I'm not from Indiana. They put something that more closely resembles a very meaty spaghetti sauce on top of ... spaghetti and call it chili!
Sounds like it's Chilé Gumbo.pbwalker wrote:Have a friend who is from Louisiana. She puts corn and potatoes in her chili.![]()
Tastes good...but it's no chili.
