That's because Zimmerman's actions may not be protected under Castle doctrine or Stand Your Ground, if it is determined that he initiated/instigated the confrontation. You aren't allowed to poke your finger in someone's chest to get the other party to swing at you. If it is determined he did essentially that, the DA would likely have sufficient justification for a manslaughter conviction (not murder II... that's just ridiculous). A false use of the Stand Your Ground defense will do more harm to our rights than equitable justice IAW Florida's current law. If it is determined he was justified, it will not be because of the Stand Your Ground immunity clause, and that will serve all gun owners better than a knee-jerk acquittal or conviction of Mr. Zimmerman in the media.

It will be interesting to see what really comes out during the legal process after all the posturing in the media and statements by Obama. Sad thing is that one life is lost, one ruined, and there are potential ramifications from knee-jerk legislation that may affect all of us in a negative manner.
