You know she did NOT say, "You can see Russia from my house." That was Tina Fey.
You want a list of actual, no-nonsense Obama quotes by comparison? How about this gem?The basis for this line comes from a September 2008 interview with ABC News's Charles Gibson, who asked Palin what insights she had from her state being so close to Russia. She responded: "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."
This is true. As Slate has pointed out, on a clear day, those on the Alaskan island of Little Diomede can see the Russian island of Big Diomede, located across the International Date Line some two and a half miles away. Given that Big Diomede has no permanent population, the amount of foreign policy experience one can gain from staring at it is debatable. But you can see Russian soil while standing in Alaska.
Or this beauty:"It was also interesting to see that political interaction in Europe is not that different from the United States Senate. There's a lot of - I don't know what the term is in Austrian, wheeling and dealing."etc, etc"I've been in 57 states now - I think one left to go."
Sarah Palin wrote:"As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border." --Sarah Palin, explaining why Alaska's proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, interview with CBS's Katie Couric, Sept. 24, 2008
Sarah Pain wrote:"But obviously, we've got to stand with our North Korean allies." --Sarah Palin, after being asked how she would handle the current hostilities between the two Koreas, interview on Glenn Beck's radio show, Nov. 24, 2010
I could do this all day...Sarah Palin wrote:''But ultimately what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy.''
—Sarah Palin, explaining the $700 billion government bailout of Wall Street to Karie Couric, CBS News interview, Sept. 24, 2008

All politicians, at some point, have put their foot in their mouths. It's just how much you want to look for those gaffes. Seems like the VP has always been a punching bag. Intentional or not IDK.

Re: Dumb Vice Presidents
Actually television HAD been invented well before 1929, but was not in general use, and Herbert Hoover was a featured performer in an early experimental (point to point) transmission. WRGB in Schenectady NY can trace its continuous licensure as a television station to January 13th 1928, although it was broadcasting no programming, per se, just images for experimental reception by engineers.VoiceofReason wrote: . . . Alaska does share a border with Russia. Little Diomede Island (Alaska) is US territory and Big Diomede Island is Russia. They are separated by 2 miles of open water. Russian Bear bombers were not an uncommon sight in the Bering strait. The Mad Moderate wrote: Yes. Re: Dumb Vice Presidents
I wasn't aware of those two islands. After a quick Wikipedia search:G26ster wrote:Alaska does share a border with Russia. "During winter, an ice bridge usually spans the distance between these two islands; therefore it is possible to walk from the United States to Russia, or vice versa."

...let's be fair now...with several of the recent past presidents and candidates, we can't have the VP's wisdom and articulate speech shining TOO bright, can we...

Re: Dumb Vice Presidents
Really? I disagree. She was asked about foreign relations. She brought up the fact that you can see Russia from Alaska, with the clear (from anyone that was really listening, instead of looking for a gotcha) implication that the governor of a large state bordering another country has foreign relations experience. Funny, no one asked Perry a similar question when he was running for President (not VP).The Mad Moderate wrote:What she actually said in that interview was not much better.Thomas wrote:Such as???The Mad Moderate wrote:Imagine the gems we would get if Palin were VP right now...

I know that is is personal preference but not even being a fan of Gov. Palin, I'd take any gems that she might produce. I'd sleep a lot better at night knowing that she was a heart beat away from the oval office than I do now with Blunderin' Joe.The Mad Moderate wrote:Imagine the gems we would get if Palin were VP right now...
