Once you hit the Dalton Hwy, it is lonely going.

Man...now I want to go again!
What bike where you riding?
What was your ride time from Coldfoot to Deadhorse?
I'll be on a Harley EGC and more than a little concerned about my gas mileage on this leg.

Gas can be a problem. the bikers, are super friendly and as long as you have some tube to syphon, someone will help you out in an emergency.
We used to call those syphon tubes an "Oklahoma Credit Card".
I'll have one in the saddle bags.
Thanks for the advice.

I made that trip in '85... What a blast.!

A friend and his wife are currently in Northern BC on their Kawi Coucours. He's having an amazing time despite below-freezing temps and muddy, rocky roads with lots of flying debris. This morning he told me that much of the Yukon and all of the major access roads into AK are closed or heavily delayed due to mud slides and washouts. Road conditions are about as bad as I've heard in several years.

Sounds like some genuine adventure fun, if you're properly prepared in both gear and mindset.

FYI....

AK Roads: http://511.alaska.gov/alaska511/mappingcomponent" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My buddy is experiencing an "undetermined time" stop in Northern BC due to road closures.

So.... DON'T RUSH.!!

Have a blast and Ride Safe.! :thumbs2:
Wish I was there with you.

Best memories from '85.... Not in order of priority..
1. Watson Lake
2. Camping on the beach on Homer Spit. --> (#1) Listening to the Whales all night long was just incredible.
3. The (10 hour) ride in the school bus on dirt roads through Denali.
4. The two black bears tearing through the tents of a large group of German tourists just next to us. Apparently they didn't heed the warnings about not leaving food and smelly toiletries in their tents. Nobody hurt, thankfully. But a bit scary to be that close to the action.
5. Reeling in a 15 pound salmon from the bank of the Kenai, and then eating it 20 minutes later.
6. Washing my hands in a small stream and looking up to see a Bald Eagle perched not 20 feet away from me on the branch of a dead tree.... staring at me.

The prayers worked.

The trip is all that I had imagined.

The Harley ran like a top.
We made it to the Arctic Circle on the Dalton Highway with a sprained ankle but decided to return to Fairbanks and take an SUV to Deadhorse.
Not sure why that was such a goal.

Lots of bears and other wildlife on the ALCAN in northern BC and the Yukon
made for some interesting moments.
I can tell you what a buffalo's breath smells like.

Great trip back through Sturgis. (the topless biker babes had not arrived yet)

The road to Little Big Horn was closed because of smoke but I toured the Badlands, Custer National Forest, and Mount Rushmore.

Spent the 4th with my family in Oklahoma and putted on back home on the 5th.

Great trip, looked forward to each day, glad to be back.
See ya DTR.

I'm glad you arrived home safely. It sure seemed like a short trip for me. I'm not sure I want to know about the buffalo's breath either.

Heck yeah, tell us about the "buffalo's breath".
Sounds like you had great time with a lot of memories.

Sorry to hear about your ankle D but it sounds like there was plenty of ice for the swelling.
