What authority do the police have to tell you to permanently stay away from or off public property?

I'm sure they could ask you to leave at a specific time, but how long is a verbal instruction like that valid? I would guess until the incident is over and they have left the area. Cops can't just tell you what to do if there is no legal basis for it.

I know that cash is not illegal to carry around and use, but I thought i remember reading once that as an example if you go to a car dealership and buy a car (say $11,000.00) and pay cash, they have to report you to the IRS or some other Fed. agency. In other words, any cash transaction over 10K gets reported (or is suppose to).

Was watching Dateline ID last night about a man murdered. He carried $11,000 cash on him. She said she was paying college tuition, should be easy enough to determine ifit was due and amount. My ~guess~ is that as a conspiracy person, she didn't trust banks or want paper trails.

I'll repeat my earlier point. You live in the area and know they just erected a new tourist lure at the airport. You can take a picture of it any time you choose. On this trip though you are carrying a large amount of cash--cash that was not acquired easily and cash that you value. You are going to the school to pay tuition. You know that if you stop for any reason, the risk of being robbed increases, so you limit your stops to those only very necessary. With this, you stop to take pictures? Really? It is just beyond stupid, I don't buy it. What was the date this happened, and was this a time that tuition was due? You're right, it can be checked. I however think she was a flake.

Good thing cops are (supposedly) allowed to arrest for what they ~think~ but for an actual crime and violation of laws! Your right, sounds fishy. What did they prove? Nothing other than days of torture to her.

This is terrifying. Really. She might have a screw loose, but so what. Does not mean that she did anything criminal. No one should be treated like she was, no one. I hope she gets her 70 million. Carrying cash is rather odd, but my grandparents did not trust banks and always dealt in cash. Stopping to take a picture may be odd, but my parents loved taking pictures of odd things and we were forever pulling over to get a picture of this or that. Having a rifle after going to the range is not odd at all. Odd does not equal criminal, and certainly should not equate the abuse she was put through for days. We treat prisoners at Gitmo better than this woman was treated.

She was on public property, had committed no crime, and the search of the vehicle was illegal. It doesn't matter is she is a bit loopy or not. Multiple agencies (including federal) investigated and found nothing wrong. This one police department and cop had an issue with her and, due to lack of any evidence or wrongdoing on her part, eventually dropped all charges.

Sorry, I don't see your point. What nefarious use do you think she had? This all sounds like some of the stuff folks are trying to drum up on Zimmerman. Maybe what she (and he) did was stupid, or even hard to explain - I still don't see the point. This question isn't "do we understand it", or "do we agree with it"; but "was it illegal?". If it wasn't illegal, she shouldn't have been detained for hours, and definitely shouldn't have been arrested.

No, that's a banking law. Any cash deposit into a bank account over $10,000 is to be reported to the IRS. It's to combat money laundering.

Car dealerships or businesses don't have to report you.
