Not a bad idea. . .

I see a lot of uninformed people relying entirely on the salesman's advice when buying their first handgun - often with the intention of eventually carrying.

If the store / salesman made sure to have holster selection for their favorite 2-3 guns to sell (most likely the most popular conceal carry models), they could bundle a "concealed carry starter kit" complete with your choice of holster.

If reps for the other gun makers didn't like the store showing favoritism or passing over his/her company's gun, they could always step up and provide some holsters for their gun (to be sold, of course).

Again.... Let's say it's Cabelas. The one here in Fort Worth probably has 100 pistols on display. Maybe more. So now they have to stock 100 (or more) IWB holsters, 100 (or more) OWB holsters; then add in nearly that number for left-handed shooters; then add in a sprinkling of other types of holsters (pocket, shoulder, ankle); and now, add in all of the above for a second manufacturer. Triple it for a third manufacturer.

You are now having to stock well over 1,000 holsters.......to sell 100 guns. It makes no business sense at all. Cabelas solution is to pick two manufacturers, and to pick half a dozen different types of holsters to fit the most popularly bought guns. So you can get a couple of different types of holsters to fit a 5" 1911. You can get a couple of holsters that will work for a Glock 19/23. You can get one to fit a J-frame revolver. Etc. But there is simply no way they can possibly accomodate all the variations for all the guns they sell. It's an unreasonable expectation.

That's why it is always better to go direct to the holster manufacturer, and if you have an expectation of carrying your gun, to make that holster purchase when you know what gun you're going to buy.

"Rudimentary selection for their popular pistols" is not what you said. You said:

One is a subset of the other. That's why I posted my response. Cabelas sells ALL the pistols in their store, which is why "the particular pistols they sell" is not the same thing as "their popular pistols."

Sorry if I took you too literally, but I can only respond to what you write. Didn't mean to offend.

OK guys.

Any of you XY chromosomed individuals who have actually accompanied your main squeezes on a serious accessorizing spree knows better than to wonder why gun stores do not stock more holsters.

'Nuff said.

As an aside, I have recently been compelled to purchase a dictionary app for my iPhone to keep up the vocabulary here.
If it helps, I'm not even able to read my own thoughts some days.
