Right...as long as we're given time to unsheath it, time to pick the apporopriate blade and knew our assailant's next move beforehand. It wouldn't hurt if our assailant was a parapalegic too.

On mine, both the straight and serrated blades are along the side, and with a bit of practice either can be opened one-handed like any normal folding knife.

Like I said, defense-wise, it's a backup to my knife, which is a backup to my gun, which is a backup to being somewhere else. There isn't a multi-tool on the market that's my first choice for anything, except maybe a paperweight. The whole concept of the stereotypical multi-tool pretty much ensures that most or all of the onboard tools with have compromised ergonomics, and their knives are no different.

I used to own a leatherman then my wife's grandpa got me a SOG multi tool for Christmas in 2005. It is the most excellent little multi tool I have ever carried. They are however, a tad bit pricey. I probably wouldn't have bought it myself then but now having carried one so long I can clearly see its worth.

Using it as a defensive weapon has entered my mind in situations where I cannot carry "like work". It would take to long to try and open the blade but you can hold it in your "fist" and really ring someones bell in a little hand to hand.
