As far as a stiffer belt, let me say that a proper gun belt is NEVER a bad decision. It's not quite as make or break for IWB as it is for OWB, but it does make a significant difference....

I admit a certain partiality to Comp-Tac holsters for many reasons, but the first is the quality and functionality. These rigs (all their gear) are developed by and for people who actually carry guns all the time, and actually use them as well.

I have three MTACs also, and they've been my daily carry since late 2006. One of them in particular has gotten the most on-hip time in those six years, and despite some sweat-drenching, twisting-and-bending use over that time, it still sees the most daily wear. Have a few OWB Kydex holsters from CompTac, too, for IDPA, training classes, and the like.

A good gun belt is important, IMHO, even for IWB holsters...and a belt that matches the size of the holster's clips or loops. It isn't just a matter of pulling the gun and holster tight to your body; the belt has to be stiff and strong enough not to budge when you need to get your gun out in a hurry and under extreme stress. A 1.5" belt inside 1.75" clips or loops is a bad idea. A thin dress belt may not provide enough thickness for certain kinds of holster clips to hold onto reliably, and it will almost certainly stretch and deform over a period of time.

One more vote for the MTAC - I originally got mine for my Walther PPS. Loved it, but then I added a Viridian C5L light/laser, and Comp-Tac didn't make a scabbard for that combination, so it went into the closet.

Shortly after, I bought an XD(M) 5.25" 9mm, and Comp-Tac had the MTAC scabbard that fit, so all I needed to do was to buy the new Kydex scabbard and bolt it onto the MTAC, and voila, a new IWB holster that didn't cost me as much. If there's a possibility that you might want to change carry guns, that's a definite advantage. And, while I wouldn't want to do it on a daily basis, since it usually seems as if I'm running 10 minutes late for everything - changing the scabbard really takes about 5 minutes, so it's not a big deal to do.

About the gun belt - the holster and gun will be supported by the pressure of your body against the belt, so having a nice, thick stiff gun belt is not as necessary as it would be if you were going OWB. But, as was said, it never hurts to do it right.

I use an MTAC for a Glock 30 as my carry and am quite happy with it. As suggested above, do use the blue-loctite once you get it setup to keep it secure. Check the clips periodically as they can work loose.

I'll be the outlier here and sing some praise for the C-tac. It's lighter possibly a little slimmer and cooler (I haven't owned a Mtac). You sacrifice some comfort while sitting down as there's nothing to stop the rig from digging into the sides but they work well.

Last question, is the MTAC good for folks who are um.. sizable? chubby? plump? ample?

If you can wear a belt, then yes! If you're up to hemp rope or suspenders, not so much.

Actually, I know a guy who wears suspenders with an MTAC quite successfully. He *does* use a belt as well, but the belt is more for something for the clips to "hang" on than to really hold things "up."

That's with a Glock 17, and you'd never know he has it unless you saw him put it on.

And as for "ample," yes, I used to be quite "ample" myself, and the MTAC worked perfectly then. In fact, I am finding that as I continue to slim down, I have to keep readjusting where I place the rig, and what angles I carry at to control the concealment. At 250 I carried differently than I do at 210...

I am a plus size gentleman, and carry a Glock 19 in a Minotaur for 13 sweaty, movin' around, keg haulin', smack talkin',knee hurtin', bartendin' hours at a time. It is exceptionally comfortable, more than I ever thought it could have been. I was a little skeptical at first, not ever being a fan of the idea of kydex. When I decided that I would rather get and carry the Glock, kydex made more sense. Mainly after floppy holster guy managed to shoot himself in the butt whilst sitting in his car, but I digress. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend it, for whatever that is worth. Add the fact that it is made right here in Texas, and I would say winner, winner, chicken dinner.
