Stopped by Bullet Trap in Plano today and found a 9mm Shield in the display case for $399.99. It's a demo and the only one in the store. I was underwhelmed and left it with them...

I've had my first one over 2 months. Been trying to track down a 2nd one for 2 months now - finally found one at Carter Country in Houston on Saturday.

I have 1250 rounds thru my first one - still need to shoot the new one. Great gun!

For those that have had both the 9mm and .40 cal in their hand... is the feel different? grip wider? any other observations? Between the two?

Looking for a new gun for my wife, in the end, it will be her comfort and ability with it that decides if it stays or goes.. But It's my job to pare down the starting selection.

Anyone know of a range that rents the Shield?

Thanks

Champion Firearms in College Station rents the Shield. I never even liked M&Ps because of the factory trigger. I gave it a shot and rented the gun. Loved it. The trigger is different than regular M&Ps.

The frame of the 90 and 40 will be exactly the same in size - FYI.

i am hopping to find one of the mp shields in 9 mm i have a xds 45 and i love this little thing i really like it ,so there you go is just another opinion and two more things that i did not like is that it does not take 1911 mags and it only takes 5 +1 in the chamber but if you need more than 11 bullets and a reload in between you have bigger problems than just a handgun can fix

"They are out there, but seem to sell almost as fast as they show up."

A buddy of mine had been looking for one in .40 for weeks. Found a online dealer who showed 8 of them. He pulled the trigger. The next day the dealer was sold out. I'm looking forward to shooting it. Might be my new EDC. If I can find one that is...

I was able to shoot the Shield in .40 today. I like it. The sights are clear and quick. Power increase from a 9mm is noticeable, but not uncomfortable. My 13 year old fired it with out too much trouble. The 6 round mag makes target work less more of a challenge as your pinky finger will not fit on the grip. Will probably CC with the supplied 7 round clip for this reason. No FTF or malfunctions. I move this to the top of my buy list. :cheers2:

I own the poor man's Shield - Taurus PT709 AND PT740 'Slim' Stainless Steel - Paid on average with taxes $350.00. Academy had the SS on sale early last Aug for $300 (same price as everyday for the Slim black/blued). I swap them monthly for CC. Both accurate and reliable. They share the same accessories (holsters and mag pouch) and I have an array of IWB and OWB holsters to match whatever weather allows. My favorite IWB are the Remora 4ART w/full sweat shield and the DeSantis #106 Sof-Tuck w/adj. cant - OWB DeSantis Mini-Scabbard #019 - Forbus paddle shown in picture is a bit bulky for CC, but doable. The 740 is quite a bit snappier than the 709 with either 165 or 180 gr.

I thought seriously about the Shield before buying the 740, but just could not justify the price (or wait) and really enjoyed the 709. Not to mention getting the most bang for my bucks. My next pistol will be the new S&W SD9VE if I can ever catch one in stock at a reasonable price. According to Academy the Shield and SDVE's are out the door shortly after receiving - usually same day.

Interestingly, my daughter finally got to shoot the Shield up in FtW yesterday. After shooting it, she made her decision -- she's buying a SIG P938

I called all the shops I know of in the Plano/Richardson/McKinney area this weekend and none have them. (not even the .40 version) I'd love to get one, preferably new for warranty, but it seems pretty scarce.
