Thanks to you rentz, I ordered one of the M44s. Came yesterday covered in cosmoline head to toe. I broke her down all the way, including breaking down the bolt and she cleaned up very nice. A gorgeous, all numbers matching, Izhevsk marked 1944, with a very nice stock. I am very pleased with the $169 purchase, even with the import marks. Makes the ones at the local gun shows for $200- $400 look like beaters. Good luck with yours

Looks exactly like the one I got, great stock all numbers matching 1944
Just got done putting it back together except for the bolt I just can't seem to get it back together and lock back at 12 without coming out of the channel
Only thing I can think of is the firing pin needs to be backed off, I'll try it later when I'm not so tired from standing in the heat all afternoon cleaning this
The trash bag was a great idea left it in the sun for 2 days and 90% of the cosmo came off, still think there's some seeped into the wood I might attack it with a steamer

You have to hold the tab in the channel when you pull twist it back to 12 o'clock. Just grip the lower piece that the lug rides in the channel when you twist. It will work.

Question for those who have both the M44 and the 91/30: Which do you prefer?

Yup just figured that out actually, found a slightly better write up on the assembly
These things are quite simple to strip and assemble

Out of those two the M44, but a M38 is even better. And the 91/59's are usually really good shooters.

Thanks. Yeah, since I fired yours last year, I've looked at all the ones that came up at gun shows. Pretty disappointing. But, I really didn't go beyond that to find one. When these came up from AIM, I just went ahead and did it, as my collection is heading mainly in the WWI/WWII military revolver, rifle direction anyway.
