Okay, I'm the oddball here. I don't carry an extra magazine most of the time. This is out of sheer laziness.

I know I need to. I really should bring an extra with me everywhere I go, in the event I end up in a gang situation.

I'm carrying 7+1 (now, thanks to some of you guys for reminding me!) in the .45, and a extra mag of 7 in a Brommeland holder. That leaves me with 15 rounds to send downrange, if I ever was forced to. Thinking about getting another Wilson magazine here in the near future. Need to order that double mag holder too...

How many here have experienced (or witnessed) a “jam� or other type of failure due to a magazine?

I have witnessed the floor plate of a Glock mag dump rounds and once had the follower of a P95 Ruger mag twist in the mag and break (Trust me.....It is hard to explain) Ruger was entertained by this and sent me another mag.

I carry one spare in my support side pocket in a Nemesis mag packer or in a kydex single mag holder at 9 oclock when I have a Glock (99% of the time). I carry a speed strip in my support side pocket if I have my wheelie.

I refuse to leave home without an extra mag....I also have a couple of extras in my "bad day" bag in the trunk of my car.

Usual at least one 13 mag (9mm) spare....sometimes carry twins in D. Hume leather holder plus 13 in 229 'n one in the pipe.

Who was it that I saw posting that two is one, and one is none???

37 must be my "new" lucky number then...12+12+12+1

I used to believe if you can't get it done in 2 or 3, you might be in more trouble than you think...

But to each his/her own...

I normally carry 1 extra. 16+16+1. If I'm planning a trip or going to Houston I carry 2 more. 16+16+16+16+1= 49.

I carry two spare 8 rd mags of .45ACP with 9 in the gun.

If I happen to carry my wife's XD9, I carry two spare 17 rd mags of 9mm, with 18 in the gun.

If I happen to be in a situation where necessity dictates that I carry my "gun you carry when you can't carry a GUN." .32NAA Guardian, I carry two spare 6 rd mags with 7 in the gun,

I have been know to combine two or more of the above and others.

I have been saving for an XD45ACP Compact and that will undoubtedly change things a little.

well, I don't carry a spare magazine. I am the bane of existence, I know.
with my S&W 9VE, I have 16+1 (HydraShocks), @5:37pm with an Uncle Mike's
with my Beretta 92, I have a 20rdr +1 (HydraShocks), @5:15pm with an Uncle Mike's
with my Taurus wheelie, I have 5, and carry two Bianchi speed strips. (357 GoldDots), front right change pocket, in a no-name cloth job, speed strips in the deep pockets.
sure, I'd like to carry some extra mags, but with my wallet, cellphone, car keys, I don't want any more extra stuff.
I may change my mind, as I grow, but for the time being that's how the cookie crumbles.

When I pocket carry the PM-9 (6+1) I carry two 7 rd mags in my hip pocket in a leather pouch.

I have Bianchi nylon, dual mag pouches that can be worn either horizontal or vertical. Worn horizontally, they are easier to conceal under a loose shirt. I have one for single stack mags and one for staggered.

So for my 1911's (8+1) I have two 8 rd spares and for my .40 S&W Hi-Powers (10+1), I have two 10 rd spares.

If I ever start carrying my FNH FNP-40 (14+1), the same pouch will hold two 14 rd mags.

I carry one extra mag with either my XD .45 or S&W 9mm...that gives me 27 rounds of .45 (13 + 1 + 13) or 25 rounds of 9mm (12 + 1 + 12)

PM9 one extra 7rnds

XD9 in shoulder rig 16+15+15 (having a hard time getting used to the shoulder rig though)

M&P compact 9mm with 11+1. Not into carrying the spare mag yet.

I do not know who said it, but it is wonderful advice.

A good reinforcement of my decision to carry an extra mag(s) was shooting at the 59 range about two weeks ago. I shoot IDPA and carry enough in my setup to get through any IDPA stage. The Tuesday night shoot is an "open" shoot that often goes well into 18-20 shots per stage. I had a type 3 malfunction at the beginning of the stage and had to dump a full mag. I missed the steel a couple of times and ended up running dry and out of mags at the end of the stage. (they only allow 10 per mag) What a hollow gut feeling you get when you reach and feel an empty mag pouch!

Unlike real life.....my dear friend Kinnlee ran up and tapped me on the shoulder with a full mag. Friends like that are good to have close by when the going gets tough! I swear the guy had a mag for me at the moment I went to slide lock!

There is one other reason to carry spare magazines that I haven't seen anyone mention. It balances the weight on your belt so your pants sag evenly!
