Years ago we got rid of all of ours, simply because of the room it took up in our rinky dink shack. My next door neighbor, in this 1000 watt, brain melting sub-woofer society hand built two (one for each channel) analog 1.5 watt amplifiers and restored two old (read cast iron) Klipsch speakers. He plays both digital and vinyl over the system. Sometimes you can hear it when you are walking up to the house but it's not that annoying thumping that is usually heard, you can hear all of the nuances of what he's playing.

He invited me in one time to hear the new system. The volume was loud and surrounding us but we could converse in a normal tone...I still don't understand how that works. Now I am not tone deaf but the difference between the "stair steps" of digital recording and the Syne waves of analog were lost on me until that day. ELP on vinyl through Klipsch speakers powered by 1.5 watt amps bathed in the warm glow of vacuum tubes was beyond reality!

I took it to the fine folks at Dallas Vintage Audio and they got it repaired and in working order again. My wife also had some odds and ends records from an estate come into our possession. I have to tell you, even with the pops and snaps from scratches and dust, these old vinyl albums and singles sound GOOD! Are they as crisp and clean as a CD? Nope, and that is OKAY. They have a something to them that makes them sound better in a way...its like a magic time machine behind me here...right now, I've got Janis Joplin wailing away on some Big Brother and the Holding Company album and she sounds sweet...I now have a new something to spend my money on: old vinyl...anyway, it was I thought this was too good to not share. If you haven't heard vinyl before, OR you haven't listened in a long time, do yourself the favor and try to find a way to do it. Its just so good. :thumbs2:
Cheap Thrills and Jimi Hendrix Experience were the first two LPs that I bought! My dad didn't like them, but I did. "rlol"
I'm going to be looking for that kind of stuff. Probably 1960s to 1980s rock albums mostly and maybe some country albums here and there, like Hank Jr. I want to pick up Jimi Hendrix---Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland, for certain. I've only ever heard them on tapes and CDs, I can't wait to hear them on vinyl...I know its going to be awesome.
You can still find them. After you check out the local stores, you may want to make a trip to Austin. Electric Ladyland was also a favorite. I never had a big LP collection and gave them away years ago.

Maybe Kilowatts, but that could melt the Klipsch speakers.

My parents still use their stereo to listen to some of their old records. It even has the flashing disco lights on the bottom. Image

My roommate in college used to have her lava lamp connected to a clapper. Now that's taking it to a whole other level.

Every now and then, I'll have a scotch and water, or three, and let myself drift back to a kinder and gentler time,

BTW Got any Brewer and Shipley "rlol"

Somebody once told me: But how does it sound. Specs, numbers, RMS, digital, wow and flutter and all that stuff, but how does it sound. Do you like the way it sounds?

My whole CD collection is on MP3 now. You know to me, it used to sound better in the old days. Yeah its convenient as .. but at what cost.

I'm hooking my old turntable system back up in a month or two so I can get a side by side comparison. I'll let you know.
