I bought a Macbook Pro on Labor Day of 2007 and it's still running like a champ. I've definitely noticed it slowing down in recent months (when I have several big programs running... like iTunes, iPhoto, etc) so I think I'll have someone upgrade the RAM soon, but other than that, it's been a dream. This was my first Apple product and I've had zero complaints and I'll never go back to a Windows PC.

And I'm not a programmer/computer genious or anything like that... heck I'm about 1 notch above a computer idiot. I'm an accountant by trade so I know how to type, surf the internet, etc.

I swore that I would never buy another PC after the latest crash. I have many, many friends with MacBooks or Mac desktops... they love them. Heck, they swear by them. They never complain about issues, ever.

Yes, this little beast was expensive. If I can get 3 years (what I have come to expect from the PC's) out of this with minimal complaints, I'll be happy.

We still have a Toshiba Satellite running strong in the house to appease the PC crowd.
I bought the 24" iMac back in 2007. It is still trundling along at a good clip on my wife's desk. I bought the 17" MacBook Pro in 2008. I'm typing on it right now. I bought the 15" MacBook Pro in early 2009. My wife occasionally remembers to restart it.......about once a month or so. I bought the 27" iMac back in late 2011 when the old iMac finally dropped the hard drive and I had to get a new drive installed and reinstall all the software. Not too bad for a then 4 year old production machine. So now it's my wife's desktop unit (the 15" laptop is hers too), and I do most of my work on the 27" iMac.

Same story with us. My husband got a new Macbook for Mother's Day! I've been on it a few times and love it. I'm still limping along with my HP. Hopefully it will last until the Mac is paid for, then I get one next. Maybe for Father's Day.

We're pretty much an all Mac shop here at home and for our business.

21.5" iMac (Early 2007)
Mac Mini (Late 2010)
Mac Mini (Mid 2012)
27" iMac (Mid 2012)
iPad (3rd Gen) - x3
iPad 2
iPad
32GB iPhone 4s - x2
16GB iPhone 4
16GB iPhone 3GS - x2

One thing I definitely love about Mac vs Windows is the upgrade cost and policies. With Windows, you get to pay from $119-$219 per computer to upgrade to the next OS. With Mac, you pay $29 (varies from OS to OS but the last 3 have all been at this price point) and you can upgrade all of the Macs that you own.

One other side note: Windows runs faster and more stable on Mac hardware than it does on any PC manufacturer's platform. I do have Windows XP and 7 installed via BootCamp or Parallels Desktop for those ultra rare situations where I need to use Windows.

Doesn't everyone's???? :rolll

Edited to add: This reminded me of an "insult" that a civilian kid threw at me (an Air Force Brat) when we were stateside. The "insult" was, naturally, "Yo mama wears combat boots!" to which I replied, "Doesn't everybody's?" It kinda took the air out of his sails a bit. It was actually Pop who wore the boots, but it seemed funny at the time.

What tools, if you don't mind me asking? I spent the better part of 8 years as a Windows admin and it's part of the reason I switched to Macs (via Linux).

I usually used CoRD to manage a small subset of servers, and for anything that required MMC / AD config, I just RDPd in to a Win server.
For the Windows boxes
VMWare and Windows Server 2008
Cristie BMR for backup and recovery
Clonedrive for replication
ConfigMgr for Configuration Managment
EMC Networker for diags and logging

and of course the ever ubiquitous RDP and CISCO config console for the network appliances.

We are trying to reduce the number of vm hosts and machines we have and consolidating some of the data to our NetApp box. Currently we are serving up a little over 1.2 Petabytes of data every day. After deduplication and compression we have about 700 terabytes stored on our SFT servers. Sometimes I keep myself up at night thinking about how much data we have compared to when I started in this business working with 5 megabyte hardrives and 640k of RAM :eek6

I have an iPhone 3G. Soon after I got it, I vowed to never intentionally buy another Apple product. Switched to Android and the iPhone was relegated to MP3 player status.

Sooooo yeah... not a fan "rlol"

iRefuse to participate... :lol::

This picture sums up my feelings about "i" or "mac" anything. Except for my iPad. The iPad is great for what it is. A cool toy that in a pinch I can RDP in to my network and fix something. Its a great way to surf the web except for no Flash support :banghead: and its fun to play some time waster tower defense or other casual games.

I have a lot of Apple pictures like that, but since this is a gun-related forum, I'll share this one:
(note I Photoshopped it to remove some red stuff and a bad word)

"rlol" Never seen that one.

As for tablets, I have an Acer Iconia Tab that works just fine for my needs.

Funny that you place such a premium on one form of Unix over another just because one has a nicer shell. :)

I meant that the Mac has a nicer shell in case anyone actually cares. :)

In that case, I agree. I thought you meant the obverse.
