No, I didn't misread your post.
But if you are not associated with the school function, on the same playground, you are not prohibited from carrying.
If you were prohibited, then at the same time, if you went to the zoo, and walked directly next to, in front of, behind, or whatever, you would also be prohibited.
Now, that being said, could a cop arrest you?
Sure, would you get off, you should, but it may take some serious legals fees.

Well, it looks like you know that I am wrong and I know that you are wrong. :)

I am not sure that this is as clear cut as some think. PC 46.03 says the gun is forbidden:
"(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution, any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the institution;"
I read this as saying that if you are on school grounds and there is a school sponsored activity taking place on the grounds you cannot carry there, whether you are taking part or not.
But, based on Charles' legal opinion, I have been convinced that this clause applies to places owned by the school and not other public or privately owned grounds. So, if you are at a city zoo and a class is there, you are not breaking the law if you are armed. Being there with the class might make this much more of a gray area though.
