So a loaded black scary rifle strapped to your back can be carried in down town Dallas, as long as you don't touch it? Or will you still be charged with disturbing the peace? I am assuming you will still be stopped and questioned by the police regardless. I am assuming you will also probably need a good reason for why you are doing this and pass the attitude test. But assuming if all that goes ok and you are not carrying any illegal drugs, or jaywalking and have no outstanding warrants, will you be free to go about your business?

Who knows? I personally wouldn't carry a long gun in anything other than a case in places like downtown Dallas, Galleria mall, etc.

I'm wondering just how one could carry a black rifle in downtown Dallas in a manner that would NOT alarm the sheeple.
It's legal, so there is surely a way.

Depending on the reporter, I think either ignorance or malice explains why they report it that way. (Sometimes even both).

Usually malevolent ineptitude covers it.

"42.01. DISORDERLY CONDUCT.
(a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly:
(8) displays a firearm or other deadly weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm;"
It sounds like the prosecution has to prove intent. So as long as you act appropriately and don't run into any police officers that don't think the 2nd Amendment shouldn't apply to you, you should be fine.

One makes a fool of themselves when they rant on situations in which you have failed to educate yourself.
if anyone would bother to read the full report, available via open records, you would know that the arrested man was involved in a fight in the parking garage, when he pulled out his gun to scare and intimidate his counter parts. That's when persons not involved at all, called for police, fearing they might catch a bullet in a crossfire. Being since they're confined in a garage with a drunk high man with a gun. I didn't see anything that said he was just walking quietly down the sidewalk in downtown. It also stated "semi auto" ak-47 styled rifle.
Liberal reporting and assumptions.

Creative writing to increase circulation/ratings has been problematic for a long time. "Investigative" reporting is almost a lost art.

Well Kid, welcome to the forum.
However, you need to tone down the attitude. The majority of the posts on here were made BEFORE the records were available, and the Dallas News link was even updated this morning at 8:24 to reflect what really happened.
http://www.dallasnews.com/news/crime/he ... dallas.ece" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
So, before you come in here accusing people of 'ranting' about things without educating themselves, you need to remember information is always available right from the start. Also, please educate yourself on the rules of the forum about no personal attacks on other members.

It's not just Dallas. I was at a neighborhood watch organization meeting about a year ago in Katy, and one guy mentioned that he thought we needed to form the group because he had seen someone driving down the street with an "assault rifle" in plain view. The Sheriff's deputy in attendance had to inform him that this was perfectly legal in Texas.
The neighbor who complained had just immigrated to Texas from Kalifornia, so that is probably a large part of the problem. As an aside, we should probably tighten up our immigration standards from places like Kali to require that prospective Texans learn a little something about our culture and values before we let them come here.
